  Admittedly, I was looking for a good copy of the closing track to the 1970’s children’s show Villa Alegre when I ran up on DJ EJ’s Schoolhouse Funk Mix.  Oh God.  The first track I knew immediately, since I often play Vince Guaraldiwhile painting and doing housework.  But the second track nearly made me blow a load across the room…

From the Vaults #3: Guest Mix by DJ EJ

ANTS Podcast mostly works the "deep finds" angle, but the time has come for a healthy dose of hit worship with a guest episode from DJ EJ, a longtime Fayetteville music scene staple. He was a station manager at KXUA, where he hosted Wheels of Steel, a show that spotlit local DJs. The show ended a few years back but lives on in the form of a party series, which has become one of EJ's best known projects. He's currently the music director for Art Amiss, a local organization dedicated to art, fashion and music in Arkansas. I'm very happy to have him contribute this mix of unabashed soft rock essentials for FTV.

DJ EJ Volume 2 Niche Bassline Mix The name 'Niche' became synonymous with Bassline music which was popularised through the nightclub of the same name. Niche nightclub, in Sheffield, played music that had roots in Speed Garage but favoured female vocals, heavy basslines and four-to-the-floor beats which differentiated it from Garage. Bassline blew up in the Midlands in the early 00s and spread further afield after the T2 single 'Heartbroken' gained success in the mainstream. However, fans of the music had trouble finding venues for events after Niche nightclub was shut down. The genre suffered due to the drugs and violence that flooded the scene as a result of its popularity, but that did not stop its evolution through Speed Garage, Bassline House and Grime influenced sounds.
