This Neutral Milk Hotel cover of Glue by The Gerbils was originally released as part of KSPC’s “The Basement Tapes, Volume Two: Live Underground”.

While it never made it onto an album, the softer acoustic tones on this version give it a feeling of intimacy and authenticity that’s always struck home for me.

December 1993 playlist for KSPC-FM 88.7, the radio station of Pomona College in Claremont, CA.

While most of the playlists in my collection are obviously from my own college radio station, I did save a number of others from other Boston-area stations plus a few further afield.

This playlist—sent to my radio station, as per the mailing label—was from a fellow broadcaster on the other side of the country. I probably grabbed it because the music they were playing was very similar to WHRB’s rock programming: lo-fi American indie pop and experimental rock, a bit of riot grrrl, noise from NZ and Japan. The DIY, hand-written aesthetic was also another sign of a kindred station. I definitely would have tuned in from the east coast if we had internet radio back then!
