Today also marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the Forever, Michael album (and this song, We're Almost There, as its premiere single) so I'm taking another dive into this album since it's been a while. This is one of those albums I really regret not having on vinyl yet. I always have to go with the DJ Spinna extended version of We're Almost There due to how satisfyingly mixed the climatic key change at the halfway point of the song is, and how he highlights that iconic drum beat. I always thought the drum beat and subsequent bass hook had very early 70s hip hop elements, so I was glad to find out Wu Tang Clan sampled this song in 2010.
