Mati Diop’s 'Dahomey' isn’t solely concerned with the subject of repatriating Beninese artifacts, but with returning the debate to the Ben
I am always keeping an eye out for African film makers and Mati Diop is one to keep an eye on. Her previous film Atlantics was a gorgeous and haunting analysis of the impact the Sahel and west african migrant crisis pushing young men and women across the Sahara and across the Mediterranean often to their deaths. Her new movie "Dahomey", Is a documentary unpacking the implications, and issues behind the repatriation of the famous Benin bronzes. I have not seen the movie yet but Africa is a country as usual do a wonderful job of critiquing the movie.
