Wish I could have found a higher resolution of this photo... this is from the (very small) Discogs profile pic of Trance/Dance artist "DJs @ Work", and this is the guy in the middle, Ole van Dansk. Being this pixelated, he looks almost just as I looked in 2011, although I'm sure this pic was from around 2001, back when everything was cool in general. By the time I was a young adult, EDM branded garbage ruled the dancefloors, unfortunately. Anyway I dig his hair and I dig his shirt. Here's to early '00s (AUGHTS) trance music!!!
That's right, it's pronounced "aughts/oughts or aughties or even naughts" NOT "two-thousands". "Two-thousands" could refer to the entire century or the entire millennium. The next decade ('10s) is the TENS, just as it'd be written. I don't think the thoughtless average Joes and Janes even think about how to pronounce this decade because nobody ever tries. All you hear is "early two-thousands" or "late two-thousands" which is very imprecise. It's not that hard, and it's important when referring to eras of music. Get it right already people.
ALSO, the apostrophe used when abbreviating decades comes BEFORE the last two digits, e.g. '90s, not 90's. Putting the apostrophe between the last digit and the 's' makes it possessive, as if you were referring something that personally belonged to some person known as the "nineties" or even "the ninety". The apostrophe comes first because you're shaving off the digits that come BEFORE it. You could just say, "Well, it's just colloquial now to write "90's" so it's okay, y'know...." .......You know what colloquialism really means? It means, "WE LET THE IDIOTS WIN." (as in how the incorrect majority fail to conform to an accurate standard which no authority effectively reinforces)
So what I'm saying is, DON'T LET THE IDIOTS WIN. Preserve the prestige of language.
