okayokay so traditionally the yuyan archers only taught men (idk if this is true but it’s what i kind of assumed? correct me if i’m wrong -> EDIT: they do teach girls but i still have the feeling that her parents still wouldn’t want her to join) but tiney mai was so fascinated by the yuyan archers and their precision and she wanted that, and okay she was bored so whatever she used to sneak in their lessons and dress as a man to teach herself their skills and she became amazing at it but once her dad found out he banned her from joining the archers because it was “unbecoming of a noble woman”. so to keep her quiet as to not ruin her dad’s political career, her parents bought her her knives and arrows to train by herself so she wouldn’t say anything. mai, ofc, didn’t actually care about joining the yuyan archers she just wanted to do something, to be something, instead of her parents’ quiet little girl who does as she’s told, sits where she should sit. she always had this sort of feeling of not sitting there and being perfect, of moving her hands, of learning new things (mai with adhd is something that can be so personal…)

after the war, ty lee tells suki about the yuyan archers which leads to suki deciding the two groups could teach each other their fighting styles and mai is currently rebelling against her mom, who keeps telling her to sit tight in the flower shop and be a woman (anyways she/they mai) so mai secretly joins the yuyan archers (okay not so secretly, they don’t care that she’s there her mom just can’t know) and when suki’s eyes catch on her showing off her skills when the yuyan archers and kyoshi warriors meet it kind of becomes this sort of challenge? as they learn each other’s fighting techniques, they’re also competing and falling in love and i anyways mai eventually becomes the part-time leader of the yuyan archers and she goes to school also part-time (cause she deserves to 🙄) and also eventually she cuts her hair and styles it the same way the yuyan archers do and she likes to think that her younger self would approve <3

Lmao I think the problem is that Euphoria presents itself as a grounded realistic take on high school. Tbh I kinda think it is? Like I know kids in my school going through some shit like that (I know a girl at my school who broke up with her boyfriend for the third time recently because he cheated on her again but like they’re gonna get back together I can tell) but the problem is that to the wide majority of people had tamer high school experiences. Also the whole sexualization of high schoolers which is a really complicated subject because YES, high schoolers have sex but you don’t have to directly show it, just cut away before it gets graphic.
