Evolution of Resolution is a net art piece made to showcase the evolution of technology through window resolutions. The GIF visually is a typographic poster displayed in a monochrome monitor. The GIF also incorporates a glitch effect inside the monitor. The frame of the GIF is heavily inspired by the old Apple computers and Fallout 4’s terminal.
The GIF consists of 4 different GUI’s in different resolutions; Macintosh System 1 (1984), Windows XP (2001), Mac OS X (2001), and iOS 12 (2018). All of the user interfaces showcase different executions of the “doge” meme. The user interface designs also incorporate their respective original fonts (Chicago (Macintosh System 1), Segoe UI (Windows XP), Helvetica Neue (Mac OSX and iOS 12). The GIF consists of several key visual elements: A text art of the doge meme is used in the Macintosh System 1, a homage to the old Youtube tutorials is displayed in Windows XP in a form of the notepad app, a randomly generated terrain in Mac OSX displayed through VLC, and the Photos app in iOS 12 showcasing a photo of the dog. The use of the colors green and black is a tribute to the old monochrome monitors.
