the clock strikes midnight & at that precise moment he hits the send button, a short message delivered to the setter. [ text: oikawa ] happy birthday, i'm going to sleep.
except he isn’t really, he’s buried in enough post it notes to spell out the words お誕生日おめでとう, awaiting the moment oikawa falls asleep to sneak into his room ( with his mother’s permission ! ) to give it a makeover. & maybe a less than pleasant wake up call in the form of incessant messages, but the milk bread left on oikawa’s desk speaks only of the many years of friendship they’ve shared. / iwa !
truthfully, oikawa did see his message at midnight, but opted to reply to the expected briefness of it in the morning.
his lids jolt open when he’s flooded by the amount of text’s he’s received of none other than… iwaizumi. of course. tooru, in the groggy stupor of being harshly awakened, sits on the edge of his bed. he brings his hands to his eyes, but before he rubs on the skin, something catches his attention from his peripheral. something yellow that wasn’t there the day before.
with a vision less blurry and focused, he stands slowly, reaching the wall that had the written message just above his desk. then, his eyes wonder lower. milk bread, his favorite. calling himself surprised would be an understatement; while it was expected from hajime to remember, he never actually thought it’d be this elaborate.
tōru sighs a chuckle and runs a hand through his messy bedhead. speechless and rather flattered, he reminds himself to thank him in person later today.
