Day 4 of making my Demon King Tanjirou Au

(Finally) Meet the Demon Queen, Kanao!

Taisho Era Secret: The Upper Moons call Kanao "Lady Kanao". Kanao is the first person Tanjirou turned into, closely followed by the new Upper 1 and 3 a few days after her.

Okay im really liking the classic style of aus recently

Yk the ones that practically every fandom has (swap aus, fix-its, everyone lives no one dies, hanahaki curse ect)

So here are a few i see talked about or i see designs for but never a lot of content for

1.) Swap AUs (hashira/kamaboko squad):

This is probably one of my favorites, since the hashira are all so distinct, to swap one with a kamaboko squad member can be tricky as certain members can swap with multiple hashira and vice-versa. Ive seen a couple of these online but rarely do they go past screenshot redraws, which is completely fine but Im personally used to finding 18 million someodd aus all with their own lore and art and shit. (Can you tell i was in ut and mc..) I like these aus so much because depending on how you write it, you can potentially change how the entire story goes right from the beginning.

2.) Swap AUs cont. (Hashira/uppermoons)

Now Ive seen a lot more for this genre of swap aus, especially when it comes to content, and rarely is the uppermoon now hashira half any different (which tbh is fair, you cant change a whole lot there), but I personally adore seeing demon hashira so I eat it UP every single time. I honestly dont have a whole lot to say about this genre of swap au, but I think its cutie sometimes as its about a 60/40 with not dead Koyuki ((Ive loved Koyuki since I found out about her Im so serious)). I think the dynamics are fun in this too especially if you play your cards right.

3.) DKT AU (Demon King Tanjiro)

Now, I love the implications of a dkt au. Especially if you go the route of 'everyone lived no one died until Muzan decided to be fucking Muzan and now we lost Tanjiro'. You could play with this au in SO many ways, and im so for real when I say ive seen literally like 2 people make content on a dkt au. I love the idea of a dkt au not only because its relatively untouched but because i feel like this is one that EVERYONE would be able to spin completely differently. And, of course, it would take a whole new course of action to figure out what the fuck theyre gonna do now. In short, cool ass idea

4.) Hanahaki Disease AUs

Now, back in my early days of fandom, I heard very little about Hanahaki. It is a DEVISTATING idea and Ive heard very very little of it. In the kny space ive genuinely seen it twice. One in a short yt shorts series, and the other in a oneshot(?) Fic I have on my list and really need to read. I LOVE the idea of Hanahaki and thats not just my bias of my boyfriend loving poisons and flowers spreading to me I prommie. Hanahaki can spread to just about everyone, and 2/3 of the outcomes to Hanahaki are DEVISTATING. In case you dont know (since Hanahaki Disease is much less straightforward of a name than Swap/role-swap or DKT) the Hanahaki Disease aus from what I can tell, are basically flowers begin to grow in your lungs and throat due to unrequited or un-confessed love. You get a plethora of symptoms from such disease and there are only two ways to cure it: confess to the person you love, or surgically remove the flowers in your lungs and therefore your ability to love. Otherwise, cases 100% of the time result in death by suffocation. Now.. I love the premise im so fr thats the main reason im putting it here. Admittedly, it would be a devistating comic and especially so a devistating fic but I already have 1 maybe 2 fics I have planned so I dont need to plan a third. (I really need to finish and publish chapter 3 of blood in the water..) Regardless, in kny there are OBVIOUS answers for people who could contract Hanahaki (Obanai, Kanao, Aoi) ((some of them only make sense if I explain it but thats its own thing)) and I think I could have a field day with it. ESPECIALLY with the flower language I could apply. (I adore flower language)

5.) Everyone Lives No one Dies AUs

The name is pretty straightforward but can be done in many ways. It can be done in the: "Everyone who dies in the current and future timeline of the media, doesnt", the "Select people survive their encounters with death based off of authors/writers preferance" or the "Everyone who is described as dying in the story, backstory or main storyline lives" and I think theyre all intriguing. And NOT just because Im biased and wanna draw Kanae and Tsutako more why would you think that... This au can be done many ways and I see it fairly often, mostly because of the sheer amount of people there are that fucking DIE in Demon Slayer. Tbh I apply this au minorly to a lot of my projects, like in my Siren au characters like Ruka Rengoku, Shizu Shinazugawa, and Yuichiro Tokito all survive to see the main plotline, or in blood in the water where all the hashira live through the main plot (minus Giyuu obv) so I dont think Id make an au just centered around this but you never know

Demon Queen Kanao's forms explained

Kanao has two forms which she switches between based on the weather. Since Kanao is a bug based demon, cold weather makes her weaker.

Kanao's cold weather form:

Kanao's form for colder temperature focuses on defense. This form is based off of moths. She wears thicker clothing and more layers to keep herself warm, since moths are thicker and fluffier than butterflies.

The moth fur around her neck also makes it harder to decapitate her, despite the fur being very soft. Her moth atennae are able to detect movement easily, making it harder to sneak up on her while in this form.

Kanao is very much weaker in this form, but she ensures that it's nearly impossible to kill her while she is in this form.

Kanao's warm weather form:

Kanao's warm weather form is more based off of butterflies. She has lightweight clothing and wears only a few layers of clothing, making her fast and airy in this form.

The butterfly attached onto her eye in this form is "alive", in it's own way. It moves it's wings on it's own while being attached onto Kanao, and it can deattach and fly off.

Due to Kanao becoming blind in her right eye during the fight with Douma, Kanao's right eye is still blind, despite her being a demon now. In her warm weather form, the butterfly attached onto her eye makes up for it's blindness, and Kanao can see through the butterfly at any point.

(In her cold weather form, Kanao's eye is actually visible. It looks that way regardless of her form, it's just covered up in her warm weather form. The butterfly isn't in the cold weather form because it "dies" due to the low temperatures.)

I kinda felt like the DK! Tanjirou wearing a plain kimono with his haori consept felt a bit... overused?? I really like the Kagura Dance outfit, so I decided to base the redesing on it
