Road to College Life (featuring DLS-CSB and FEU)

De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, also known as DLS-CSB, is one of the prestigious universities founded by the De La Salle brothers. To be quite honest, I was never familiar with this particular university. That's why when my Dad suggested that I take the BEE (Benilde Entrance Exam) I felt slightly irritated because I thought my Dad could care less if I attended a school that wasn’t included in the list of top universities. My dream school is actually iAcademy (I am planning to take AB in Animation, by the way) but the tuition fee is far too expensive. So I had no choice but to settle for the next best option, and that is to try my luck at Far Eastern University. It was all settled. I just had to take care of my online application form and pass the exam, that was the plan. That was the plan, until my Dad received a phone call from one of my Aunts. Little did I know that my “College plan” would change because of that one phone call. 

My Aunt told him about Benilde and their state of the art facilities. She told my Dad how Benilde could help hone my abilities, that it was the perfect university for art students like me. After asking a few more questions regarding Benilde, my Dad hung up and went to convince me to take the BEE. It didn’t seem like I had much of a choice, so I begrudgingly went and looked the school up. My initial reaction after reading a lot of reviews about Benilde was: Wow. I need to study here. I literally have never felt such emotions -- a mixture of excitement and desperation. So I downloaded all the forms, plus the extra requirements needed for students who transferred schools, and then I went on my way to complete them. Let me tell you something about Benilde’s application requirements, they’re a lot of work, especially since there are endless school work to finish and an NC2 to prepare for. But still, I pushed through. The only thing in my mind that time was that if I can’t attend my first dream school, then I’ll make sure to attend my second. 

So now here I am. I encountered a lot of problems with my application forms. They actually almost rejected my form because I forgot to have my copy of grades from Grade 11 stamped with the school’s dry seal (WARNING: DLS-CSB is VERY strict when it comes to the required application forms and extra requirements. Make sure to double-check everything before you submit them!!!) Good thing they reconsidered though and gave me my Benilde Application Kit and test permit. So now, I’m just waiting for my scheduled entrance exam. I heard it was easy, but I doubt I could pass the Math part of the exam since I really suck at Math. But anyway, I’ll keep this updated for those who are planning to take the BEE in the future. Wish me luck!!!

Last week was a lot of fun. I was able to make another set of ideas for Lazada. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to work because of class. I sent my ideas to sir Keno Enriquez through e-mail, trying to fit in as much of what I have learned from the previous pitches as I can. Hearing how the creatives come up with ideas, and seeing firsthand what pitches are like, was a really good experience.

 Last week at work, I presented my campaign idea for PCOS to Sir Joey Ong. The brief sent to me through e-mail made me realize just how important research is when coming up with new ideas. It was also a really nice feeling working on this, because it made me feel that ads really could be a medium to change the world for the better. I also experienced creating story ideas for Insular Life. I struggled a bit when it came to designing the character and making him relatable, but it was a good learning experience.

Last week, we had a talk about copywriting. I found it incredibly interesting, and I’m glad I was able to attend. I learned about the kind of ads we should be making, and the things to remember when copywriting (such as clarity, focal point and context). We were also able to researched about different campaigns for an upcoming pitch. Through that, I was able to see how great ideas could be made.
