In Writing
“Kay, we talked about this.”
“We most certainly did not.”
“There’s a limitation on the number and size of gifts!!”
“Yes, and this is well outside the defined statutes. I checked! Besides, It suits you and I’m not returning it!”
Carina stared at her demon, who was entirely pleased, with with himself and with the truly staggering diamond, set into a stunning necklace, that he had just gifted to her. He like to give her jewelry whenever the mood struck, but most of his choices were more work-appropriate than a red-carpet-worthy diamond that had probably cost him multiple millions.
Not that money was really a concern. Kay’s bank account didn’t seem to have a limit. Carina didn’t ask where the money was coming from, and trusted that he would tell her if there was ever an issue with his finances.
“Size of gifts refers to price as well as physical size,” she told him, completely unsure what to do with a diamond the size of a strawberry, surrounded by perfect, blood red rubies. “You know that.”
“It’s not explicitly called out in the contract,” Kay told her cheerfully, and lifted the necklace out of the box so he could fasten it around her neck. It was heavier than she expected, rich in stones and gold together. It was just the right length to fall into the hollow of her throat, where it seemed to glow with its own light. “In fact, while gift frequency and quantity are clearly defined, neither physical size nor metaphysical size are notably clear. And this one is pretty.”

Sproot
Sproot liked Gabriel, he was one of the only Cats who actively approached the archangel whenever he was convenient, and even joined in on Tracy’s lessons, providing himself as a willing sparring partner while Gabriel supervised. They both learned a lot, and Tracy suspected that Sproot was, in true Kitty form, mostly doing it to learn how an angel fought, just in case he ever had to fight one. Maybe also because a demon who could fight like an angel would surprise any other demon he had to fight as well.
Of course, it might also just be that he liked to fight, and liked knowing Tracy could too. It wasn’t like Sproot was any less snuggly than all the rest of her Cats.
Tracy supposed it wasn’t much of a surprise that he, the Fightingest of her Cats, often wandered about, bearing the bruises of fights won like medals of honor.
