DM Screens have been a part of the game since 1979. Their use has been controversial since around the same period. There are two official 5E screens on the market (original is picture 1 and reincarnated is picture 2) and another five or six module specific screens. Anti-screeners typically argue that screens separate you from your players and sew distrust by hiding dice rolls. Pro-screeners argue that the screen is handy for concealing minis and notes and minimizes the amount of time spent looking up rules. Most assume the utility or value of any screen is likely contingent upon what it contains on its insides, but don’t underestimate the value of the art facing your players. When players look at you and a screen is in the foreground, it can help reinforce a theme or convey a mood.
