Death Note AU: monster Hunter

- L investigates deaths that could be connected to monsters or spirits. Watari takes care of the spirits while L takes care of the monsters. They both run a training school with Roger, an alien.

- Light is a vampire that hunts other vampires and sees no irony in what he does.

- Takeda is a Jorōgumo or Spider Woman. Light recruits her to help him hunt monsters that are harder for him to kill, such as werewolves.

- Mikami is a strigoi that Light has recruited to help hunt other vampires. Unfortunately he is obsessed with counting things and he often fails as a hunter.

- Misa is a human that wants to be a vampire. Light uses her as bait and Mikami and Takeda are Concerned For Her Safety and usually end up saving Misa.

- Mello is an exorcist and Matt is a Ghost Hunter, except he’s like the buzzfeed unsolved guys mixed together.

- Near can see ghosts and is sort of an exorcist. Mello considers him a rival but Near just thinks he’s a weird overly enthusiastic priest.

- Beyond is a human (former student of Watari and L)  that helps monsters kill humans. He wishes to become a monster but most monsters recognize that would be an Awful Idea.

- A is an alien that Beyond somehow befriended.

- Linda and Ivy are ghost friends of Near.

- Naomi Misora works for the governments monster control unit. It is an extension of the environmental conservation department and she just as often relocates monsters as she kills them.

- Ryuk and Rem are Shinigami. They don’t change. 

- Dice mostly deals with faeries and non-European creatures. She spends a lot of time saving Beyond, A, Mello, and Matt from themselves. Near is probably her favorite just because he stresses her out less.

“You’re really named Lizard?” His question had a tough rind on it as though he wanted an answer as much as he wanted to flirt. “That’s silly. That’s got to be fake.”

Lizard licked the last wine traces from his lips and focused on forming clear sentences. “It’s my real name. Why would I give a fake name?”

“Maybe you want to be mysterious. Are you a mysterious man, Mr. Lizard?”

Death Note Headcanons: Children

- Dice is not typically good with kids but kids like her anyways. She likes them too.

- Matt and Q freaking LOVE kids and they love them.

- Near likes younger children but not older ones.

- L dislikes children. This is the only thing he and Roger agree on.

- A likes children individually but not as a group.

- Beyond is good with kids but is a bad influence, so he isnt allowed to babysit.

- Linda and Ivy are neutral.

Overheard in Dice’s Class

Dice: Now what you’re gonna do is aim, keep your eye on the target… And then shoot.

Near: Thanks, I’m nine.

Roger: As some of you may know, I took a bit of a sabbatical last year.

Matt: Do you mean when you shacked up with a slutty hairdresser but then she dumped you?

Dice: Matt, please! Raise your hand if you want to ask a question.

Roger: Okay, I think we should just move on.

Dice: The hairdresser certainly did.

Dice: What happened??

Beyond: Before I say anything, no one died.

Death Note : Christmas and Chanukah

- Near is Jewish and celebrates Chanukah but won’t turn down a free gift.

- Dice has a small vintage ceramic light up Christmas tree tabletop decoration she got while in the states and also has a menorah that she lights with Near. Not at all Jewish but she doesn’t want him to celebrate alone. Ivy joins them along with A and occasionally Beyond.

- Christmas is a religious holiday for Matt and Mello. They don’t give gifts until later in the evening and they both go to their respective services (Anglican and Catholic mass at Whammy’s and the Eastern Orthodox Service at the one church down the street.) They observe all twelve religious holidays for Christmas.

- Linda and Q attend church (it’s required unless you are Near or Mello) but neither are particularly religious. Linda really loves the aesthetics of Christmas and makes handmade ornaments and other decorations for the house and to sell for extra money.

- Q celebrates Yule to annoy Roger and to keep Beyond company.

- Ivy celebrates Yule because she thinks Christmas is based on a pagan holiday so, why not celebrate Yule? She also joins Near for Chanukah because she doesn’t want him to be lonely.

- Beyond celebrates Yule with Q and Ivy. For similar reasons to Ivy.

- L doesn’t like Christmas very much but does celebrate. Because he likes the sweets.

- A goes to mass with Matt on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but does not observe ephiphany. Usually will do something Yule related with Beyond and they observe Chanukah with Near.

Near: How the fuck do people stay motivated their entire lives? What drives you? I got out of bed once and I’ve been exhausted ever since.

Dice: You need to learn to hate life to the point where you want to get revenge on existence itself.

Death Note Headcanons: Instruments

- Beyond plays the spoons. He was forced to pick a’ real’ instrument at Whammy’s and picked the accordion.. Used to play it at 3am.

- Linda and A both play the flute.

- Near plays piano

- Mello learned how to play an organ because he heard it was very hard and he wanted to surpass Near. It’s a hollow victory.

- Matt taught himself how to play the ukulele and didn’t have to learn anything else because Dice managed to convince (threatened) the snobby music teacher that it counted.

- L plays violin.

- Q plays the trumpet and will sometimes join Beyond in his nightly concerts.

- Ivy plays the oboe.

- Dice taught herself harmonica after she ran away. She also used to play the recorder as a little girl and can still do ‘twinkle twinkle little star’

BONUS

- Light played the clarinet in school and was awful at it.

- Misa can play any instrument she touches. Her favorite is the harp.

- Sayu plays drums.

Detective wars

- The Top two detectives : Coil and Denevuve. They don’t like this young nameless upstart showing them up and decide to challenge him to a battle of the wits.

- Coil specializes in unusual missing persons cases and Denevuve works mainly cases involving gangs and corporate crimes.

- The third best detective: Ursula St. John. Also known as Sinjin. She decides she wants to play a game with this young upstart who shows her up. Because she’s feral and Ls around her age (she estimates) and she really wants a friend.

- she specializes in cases involving the occult and serial killers connected with cults. She’s seen some shit, L is the least scary person she’s faced.

- Coil and Denevuve are beaten soundly and L symbolically and legally takes their names.

- Ursula runs circles around L.

The slightly off kilter distorted voice trills,”You don’t know how this riddle works, do you? The riddlw is so EASY too! What did the cult leader do with his victims? Go on now, you’re Right. On. Top. Of. It.”

- L was on top of it and really wished he wasn’t. Apparently bone mosaics would often feature in his nightmares from now on.

- Ursula is ‘The Woman’ to L except it’s less romantic and more “this girl is crazy enough for this, I respect that so much Watari, you have no idea.”

- lets her keep her name. Because she mocked him when he tried to take it by pretending to be various celebrities while he was trying to declare his Victory.

“I don’t know who Ursula is! I’m Marylyn Monroe!”

“You know what, keep your name, it’s not worth the aggravation.”
