If you want to go deeper than spoons and also you’re a nerd, think of chronic illness as having a poorly rolled character in an RPG. You have precious little HP to start out with, and maybe a few spell slots. Your AC is low. You’re what we call “squishy.” And then every task you’re expected to do is some quest or side quest and they all use up your energy and you can find yourself needing a long rest pretty early in the day, but you’ll settle for a short one and a caffeine potion.

Most importantly, though, and I cannot stress this enough - how you feel day by day or even hour by hour is a complete roll of the dice.
