"Everything's A-OK!", captures a dramatic predatory moment where a doctorfish successfully defends itself against being swallowed by a lizardfish.

It is once again time for me to post the backlog of art I've spent an entire year sitting on instead of sharing. This first piece from 2024 was a little wedding gift for my brother and his wife. He's a doctor and she's studying to become a nurse, so I represented them as a doctorfish (Acanthurus chirurgus) and a nursehound shark (Scyliorhinus stellaris), respectively. Watercolor on hot press paper, 6 x 6 inches.
Colour version of Stonelapper on Skull. First layer only, will get a second brighter layer soon.
I am not sure if the Stonelapper was responsible for taking down the owner of that skull, but by the look in his eye... probably?
Daily fish fact #687
Red garra!
A fish native to cool, fast-flowing rivers of the Mediterranean and Middle East. They spend a good portion of their time grazing on algae and biofilm growing on the rocks, plants, substrate and driftwood of their habitat, but they are omnivorous and opportunistically feed on zooplankton! This fish is also known by the names nibblefish and doctorfish and it is sometimes used in spas to manage skin problems.
Critter fact #169:
The doctorfish mainly eats algae.
I don't know why. A case of why not. Exploring style is fun! Stonelapper on a skull with samphire.
Fish and skulls. It's a good combo. Probably won't finish this sketch, but thinking of how to turn it to a painting. Anyone else keep stonelappers? (Garra garra?) they are one of my favourites, little water puppies!
