Finally. This had to be one of the biggest reasons we travelled to Portland. That and the beautiful dispensaries on the way down.. Cough, cough. So we had participated in a three hour walking tour, found food, found dessert, walked some more, saw a local family band rocking out on a street corner and then hunted for the "perfect" pub. The perfect pub is one that would consist of many, many craft beers. This particular craft bar had a menu larger than your average Chinese takeaway. With little money left and hours of driving ahead, we took our changes on two beers, making sure to max out the variety in our order. As Will Ferrell says, "It's so good! Once it hits your lips!" OK, so I was only there for one day and I know I'm posting a lot. But Portland has so much to offer! I grabbed this shot on a quick whim, spotting the opportunity as the skater came across the street. I felt that it tries to sum up the city in one go. Presenting the world's smallest park! At twenty-four inches in diameter and 452.16 square inches, Mills End Park was added to the Guinness Book of World Records. It was created by a local journalist Dick Fagen who was tired of looking at a pole hole in the middle of the street. He had a column in the Oregon Journal called 'Mills End', in which he described various events that occurred in the park. These often involved leprechauns and other fantastical tales with regular characters such as Patrick O'Toole. I'm trying to remember exactly what the guide told us here.. But I think this is either the first or only dual lifting bridge in the world, with road traffic on the bottom portion and rail on the upper. To walk here we had walked through the world's largest (independent) bookstore, a city park split into blocks and a Saturday market on a Sunday. Keep Portland weird.
