This is all under the assumption that since cultivating increases your life span, when Wei Wuxian loses his golden core and all his cultivation is gone, his lifespan has returned to a normal mortal length.

In that case, his plan to never reveal what he did... in a few decades, when it was obvious that he was still aging, wouldn’t everyone find out anyway? As far as I can tell, the reason why it was never revealed like this in canon is because Wei Wuxian died before it became obvious.

Knowing him, he was probably going to go with some bullshit “yeah, continuous use of demonic cultivation corrupted it (?)” as a reason. But there are some suspicious facts already known, like how he never used his sword even before that, which would make people start to wonder when exactly he lost his core. Maybe he’d be able to bluff successfully, but lie after lie buildup makes me feel that eventually the whole truth would slip out.

In other words, one of these is true:

this is kind of(?) a plot hole, but since canon worked a certain way it just wasn’t something to worry about 

Wei Wuxian, since he’s not an idiot, understood this and expected it not to be a problem because he knew it was inevitable that he was going to die early if he went down this path

I’m just overthinking/misunderstanding and there’s a really obvious answer to this
