Please, I'm begging you, if you know someone struggling with memory loss or remembering things (hello, menopause!), do not say things like:
"What do you think the password is?"
"I picked an easy one that you would remember!"
"Come on, you know it."
"But we talked about this just last week!"
Here's the thing. "I don't remember" is a complete sentence. Full stop. Don't cajole or encourage or ask them to think hard. Don't make a joke out of "oh, you don't remember?" They don't need to be reminded that they're falling apart and can't drag a password you just made for an important file out of their head on a moment's notice. No jogging or joshing or getting frustrated is going to fill that blank space; in fact, it only makes them feel worse.
Simply tell them the answer. Calmly, easily. Don't make a big deal out of it. Don't suggest they keep a list or write it down or use an app or put it on the calendar. Just say, "it's XXXX" and let it go.
