I feel like i was taught from a young age that im annoying and I talk to much, and thats been reinforced so strongly throughout my life that I just accept it as fact. And i thought I got better with it but in reality its just that my interests have mostly gotten less overtly 'cringe' but the issue is still there. And even getting positive feedback when I do talk abt my interests feels like pity / people being polite, and anything less than explicitly positive reactions just reinforces the idea that i should just shut up

And i really really dont know how to Begin to break out of it. I was just talking to my partner about how even though he's way more introverted than me, he has more friends than I do. And im realizing its because he just.... trusts that people who talk to him want to hear him talk. And I dont, I always assume that even my closest friends are annoyed if I go off abt my own stuff too much. He's an only child and ive seen him just go to his parents and start excitedly talking about planes or history or smth, and they politely listen. Maybe they ignore him sometimes, but fuck I dont even Try to share any of my interests with my parents anymore, they just flat out ignore me at best. But they and my older siblings would make fun of me as a kid for talking to much, just all the time.

Idk how to even start breaking this apart. I wish there was a book or smth i could read that would just rewire my brain or at least give me the tools to start but idek how to begin looking for it.

hardwon surefoot is the funniest bisexual character of all time to me bc jake seems fairly committed to playing cishet men. as in all his other pcs in naddpod are men who jump on opportunities to express attraction to female characters but not really male characters at all. but naddpod being as horny a podcast as it is murph will describe a male character and emily or caldwell will make the joke of him being hot and you can Hear jake jumping in as a comedian/improviser, only for like emily to go "hey. hey hardwon are you being fr right now" and murph to make the character earnestly match or even go above and beyond hardwon's accidental flirtatious energy. forcing jake to commit to the bit. which has resulted in hardwon kissing so many men in the show. even tho jake only ever initiates hardwon talking abt women- and even funnier more specifically Failing at talking to women. hardwon has had one singular girlfriend ever and completely bombed even the smallest of flirtations w every other woman hes been into. only one (1) time in the 99th episode out of 100 does hardwon kiss a woman or even have any sort of attraction reciprocated bc most of them think hes weird and lame. but not only has hardwon expressed physical attraction to an equal amount of male characters as female characters. he has successfully kissed several men and fully made out w i think at least two. happy pride month to hardwon surefoot specifically.

man ok since im fully back on my bullshit something that really gets my goat about people reducing souda to a cowardly simp is that he's actually so brave about interacting with the rest of the cast? By which i mean that in the first chapter of the game after trying to hide away because he's justifiably afraid that any of these people he's just met may murder him, we constantly see him in all following chapters try to not only interact with the cast at large but also be very proactive in trying to stop the killings. In ch2 he takes a stand against komaeda and post trial tries to save kuzuryuu despite everything he'd done, in ch3 he's at the forefront in their efforts to stop the despair disease, hell in ch4 it's his freakout about them waiting to simply die and refusal to accept it that actually drives both gundam and nidai to commit to their fight and free the rest, and in ch5 souda was inspired by both of them which is what makes him rally the group against komaeda. Even komaeda who doesn't actually see the ultimates as people but as "hope" actually does genuinely praise souda a few times throughout the game because even though he's kind of an idiot, souda is actually proactive about confronting the motives, something that komaeda criticizes hinata about multiple times through the game. EVEN in ch5 when komaeda was full on asshole, he calls out the rest of the ultimates for simply trying to ignore him and that they should listen to souda because he's actually trying to do something about their situation.

And all of this is from a character that we know is constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. Souda in his FTE's freely admits that he thinks the trust between people is fake and that he's basically waiting for when his friends will betray him, but at the same time he's a naturally trusting person, which is why he overhauled his own look. Souda thinks its better to be distrusted and keep others at arms length by keeping others thinking he's untrustworthy because it's his only defense against being betrayed, he'd rather be seen as an untrustworthy thug because he's afraid of connection and intimacy, which is why his final FTE (which canonically is story progression locked and can only be done in ch5 after they escape the funhouse and he suspected hinata may have been the traitor) he's completely honest and genuine with hinata about himself. Even though he was constantly afraid for his life, he was never truly vengeful against the murderers in each chapter and he openly mourns them just the same, including komaeda who had at multiple points been directly responsible for setting up events as they were.

Souda is honestly such a good character and to this day I dont get how people ignore all of it to make him a joke.

i feel like not enough ppl are factoring in the cultural clash between laios and shuro and the many micro agressions shuro faced while being in their group. literally the name 'shuro' in itself is one

his name is toshiro 😭 lets also not forget that he has his own communication issues, in the opposite way that laios does- thats literally a factor in their argument, that his envy for laios's ability to express himself sincerely manifested as part of his distaste for him.

ig all this to say like, was their fight heart wrenching, especially when reading laios as autistic? absolutely. anybody whos ever been in laios's position knows how much it hurts to realize someone you thought was your friend doesnt actually like having you around, especially when they didnt tell you and you had no way of knowing due to not understanding their cues. but im begging yall to step back and see the nuance of this situation cause im gonna be real a lot of you are kinda just brushing over it acting like everything is toshiros fault and that hes a terrible person when in reality hes an average guy who really, really clashed with laios and it led to a very long misunderstanding due to their supremely opposite methods of communication. even laios and toshiro, after letting everything out in their fight, were able to come to an understanding and start a foundation for an actual friendship built on better communication

ok yknow what Edit: i shouldve made it even more explicit at the end of this post, i hadnt thought i would need to since i started the post with this, but i think a few too many people are missing my point so i just wanna clarify. i shouldnt have said 'really clashed' and left it at that because yeah they did, but it wasnt just their opposite methods of communication, it is also very much that toshiro was experiencing microaggressions via laios. it may have been unintentional on laios's part, but it still happened and wore him down, made it harder for him to communicate on top of both the more subtle social cues that he was raised with and his own communication difficulties. i also want to say that the fandom reaction to toshiro and the complete ignorance of this point is also racist tbh or at the very least ignorant. i understand that the anime did not cover this panel, and neither did the manga, as this was an omake, but im gonna be real with you guys. there are enough context clues within the story to clue you into this. if you didnt pick up on it thats ok, but i think this is a good lesson in picking up subtext in the stories that youre watching and/or reading. kui shouldnt have to explicitly say 'by the way laios was racist to toshiro' for this point to be understood, and at the very least, when the author portrays a character in a sympathetic light (as kui clearly does) it should make you question Why they are doing so and what makes them sympathetic, rather than youre immediate and only reaction to be 'well i hated what this guy did/said so i hate them and they suck'. idk exactly how to finish this, just. idk. question your biases and gut reactions to things you see in media and stories, and think about whether or not theres subtext that youre missing.

my main gripes being with current characterization of jacob and driver

driver keeps getting boiled down into an aggressor

yall are ignoring the fact that this man keeps to himself and is more on the introverted side. He is gentle and kind and soft spoken, often using his actions to show how much he cares abt someone (acts of service my beloved). He fixed irenes car, for next to nothing, he helped transport her and benicio, he made an attempt to help standard. Etc etc.

but just because he is introverted doesnt mean he is timid. Fuck no. He is not afraid to speak out or take action when shit hits the fan (ex. Getting pissed at shannon for letting them know about irene). He is also a getaway driver, which means he deals with other criminals and is not afraid to let them know to fuck off or to listen to him (ex. Telling the repeat customers to fuck off and making nino listen to him)

His demeanor can change based on the person, he doesnt react with violence unless he or someone that he cares about is threatened.

Another thing which is more of my personal opinion… read that. OPINION. im kinda sick of all the ‘stalker’ fics, dont get me wrong, its interesting to see how a character could react if they have this compulsion they feel the need to follow, but lets remember, that shit is mainly fictive/fiction and not how the character actually acts.

i also find it funny how he used a hammer once, and that became a staple instrument/symbolism for him.

To me the hammer represents his ability to be violent, he keeps it in his tool box, because he might have to use it to hammer some nails or dents, but he doesnt always use it, hell, he doesnt like to use it, he’s a mechanic, he is not going to hammer out a loose bolt, he’ll tighten it with his hands or a wrench.

now, his name, he singles himself down to one thing, driver, he is the driver, he drives the car, he works on the car, he is also a stunt driver. The car, is an extension of himself, something that he thinks gives him worth

Now, onto jacob, he is more than a rich boy who is looking for a quick fuck.

jacob started his womanizing adventure because he was looking for a connection he lacked. Besides with all of his escapades, he keeps to a routine, he doesnt immediately go to the bedroom. He makes them a drink, does his fucking dirty dancing pick up move, and THEN does the deed. but he still remembers the persons name (just bc we only saw women in the movie doesnt mean this man is not a bit fruity…. Cuz i am betting he is)

which is why i love all his scenes with hannah, they dont fuck bc he unexpectedly finds the connection he was missing, and then swoons immediately

he also respects boundaries and is willing to wait, he doesnt force hannah to do anything, he is patient with her, he notices she is nervous and lets her go at her own pace. Not to mention they stop, the kissing to go try out the ‘shit’ massage chair.

not to mention he is a pretty damn good friend and is amazing with kids (him playing with the youngest sis at the end of the grad ceremony AND BEING THERE AT THE CERMONY). He notices this dude who keeps getting hammered and talking abt getting cheated on, and instead of telling him to fuck off, he makes an attempt to help him in the way he knows how (which honestly wasnt the best way but it worked out). They eventually become friends and call each other for advice and what not.

when cal found out he was dating hannah, he was pissed and upset, but when david linhagen came he was the first to throw a punch when he realized, and when cal tackled him, he didnt do shit, he just stood there in the middle. Plus him stopping at the bar where cal was at, telling him how he felt about hannah, and all that…

now mentioning the bar scene, the second reason he went there was so that he could convince cal to go to his sons 8th grade grad. And that wasnt his only attempt in helping his family, there was a scene where he handed hannah a phone telling her ‘call ur father’. He gives a shit, and is so fucking sweet….

Also, special mention to the scene where hannah just yap about the pg movies and how ‘the guy tucks the girl in when she falls asleep’ and jacob was the one to fall asleep…. God i love my malewife girlboss duos….

Anyways… i started this before class so i prob missed some (a lot) of points but plsssss for the love of fuck, keep the character depth.

he notices how you avert to attention almost immediately, you reminded him of himself when he was way younger. awkward and shy, yknow that jazz

So of course, azul wouldnt be azul if he didnt attempt to steal your magic. Thinking you would be easy to manipulate, he approaches you with the intent to strike a deal..only to get..refused?..politely??..

You simply give him a simple "no" and walk away which really throws him in for a loop. He comes to the realization how self-assured you are. No one to constantly prove yourself too, and he's fascinated completely.

He starts to attempt being closer to you. Offering his assistance for better gear and materials, even food at times form he lounge. It's a flimsy excuse to get closer to you and he basically thrives in it.

Any sort of praise from you? he gets all shy and stuff and stammers up. Fidgeting with his glasses and his suddenly very interesting gloves. He's not used to such sincere comments, especially for him, so you really got him there.

The soft spoken loyalty that comes from you, is something he would never take for granted.

FLOYD

Floyd is genuine nightmare fuel because he zones in on you like a predator with its prey. He sees you as this "quiet little fishy" that intrigues him.

At first, it scares you to no end. This large crazy guy is in your space, throwing around random nicknames, nonetheless, chasing you around? yeah, you're cooked.

You become one of his favorite "toys". But not in the crazy cruel way—it’s in the he finds your reaction cute type of way and he feeds off of it.

However, when you start standing up for himself, he just stands still like he’s had a moment of enlightenment. Floyd likes interesting things, so of course he would be accustomed to change.

Floyd usually has his crazy mood swings, days where he doesnt want to talk and when he’d probably blitz anyone who tried talking to him. Those days, he seeks you out and just drowns in your presence.

You won’t ask questions, you dont ever anyways. You work on whatever you need to work on and sit in silence. As chaotic as he gets, sometimes he needs that balance.

He drives people away that pick on you, but you’ll never actually know unless he verbally explains that he squeezed the lights out of someone.

JADE

Jade hovers over you, not because your quiet and socially awkward, but because you have consistency.

You constantly wear a mask around those you dont know, and you dont waver. He respects that, and finds it one of the most interesting things about you thus far.

At first, he treats you with soft words, kind gestures, nice and polite. He backs off when needed and knows when to read the room.

One single factor, is that he is still a leech twin, therefore, it being in his nature, he will be a bit playful.

That said, he will poke around your boundaries a little bit. He’s going to experiment so he can see how much exactly it takes for you to fold and break apart. Its nothing like ill intent. He’s just studying you.

When he learns about your hobbies? He finds genuine interest taking over. You often find him asking you questions while you work. Jade praises a lot

He often shows how much he cares through actions, so he’s going to notice your little routines and habits. Even bad habits and helps you break them. He listens intently and offers meaningful advice.

Alright, as for the answer to your question!

I cant see Herman being the “love at first sight” type, that just doesn’t feel like him, i think to truly BE IN LOVE WITH someone he has to know them first. Like yes he looked up to mecha man before meeting robert but hes a nerd, hes a fanboy, hes 23, he grew up a total dork and probably knows what deviantart is, hes just like any other person on tumblr to me.

I think at first he wouldnt even realize he was falling in love, hes nervous all the time, why would he notice being a little more nervous around someone than usual? No he would start catching on once he realizes hes NOT nervous around them anymore. When he stops making puddles from how much extra water he makes when hes actively sweating, when he can actually talk to them without tripping over his own tongue a million times, when his heart only skips beats at the way they laugh at his bad jokes or when he notices this little gleam in their eye that reassures him they like having him around, Herman doesn’t realize hes falling until hes already DROWNING in it yknow? Hes not too used to being appreciated after all, the thought never crossed his mind that someone could like him like that so he just, doesnt have any practice in knowing when hes crushing himself!

As for how hed deal with it? Hed be less frustrated that he cant bring himself to confess out of FEAR OF BEING REJECTED and more just sad that he knows hed never be the one to initiate because if he were the one to ruin the relationship and make the other party uncomfortable as a result, hed absolutely never forgive himself for it. He doesnt want to risk reading their already wonderful relationship totally wrong, and fuck if it turns out he DID read the room wrong (which he knows himself to do OFTEN!) then not only does he walk away with a wounded heart, but now hes probably hurt the other party and made it seem like that was all he wanted from them!

Either Herman isnt the one to initiate anything, or he needs A LOT of advice and help to do so. Poor guy, he was raised a gentleman by his grandma, and the gentleman would just be too scared of hurting whoever hes got feelings for!
