The TRI COLOR
2 August - Chained to a Chair for a Bad Little League Game
Gary was the only child of Louis and Sylvia Molner, both employees of the Elgin National Watch Company in Elgin. Louis and Sylvia were terrible parents.
Gary’s parents must have had a hard time working with children. Though they told Gary to never play with matches, they came home to find several burned and extinguished matches in the kitchen sink and on the floor. That week Gary also hadn’t done his chores. A bad storm had come through, throwing branches and twigs all over their yard. Louis told Gary to pick them up, but he never did.
On top of it, Louis thought that Gary was terrible at baseball and did poorly in his Little League game the following weekend.
It was for these reasons that one day Louis and Sylvia came home from work and found Gary alone in the house. They took Gary out back, and grabbed a 12 foot long metal chain, originally used for their dog. This was wrapped around his neck twice, then loped through the legs of a big metal chair. Louis then took a padlock and secured the chain. Leaving Gary on the back porch, collared like a dog, he took the key and went back to work.
Neighbors quickly saw Gary and called the police. With their help, they were able to come rescue Gary, and cut the chain off of his neck with a hacksaw. The parents faced a year in jail and $1,000 in fines for endangering Gary. He was placed in a safe house, and the state petitioned to take him from his parents.
In their initial trial, Gary told the judge that he didn’t want his dad to go to jail, that his dad loved him and he just wanted to go home. Hearing the plea, the judge agreed to not send the parents to jail, but did fine them $500.
Yikes.
