I seen u anwser questions about service dog so I wanted to ask. Like I did retrieve test by crumpling paper into a ball and tossing it and my puppy went to it picked it up started to bring it back but dropped it and brought me her teething bone instead. Does this mean she failed the test?
Ah, I don’t know the retrieve test! But, based on what you’re saying, she still did a retrieval for you–it was just with a different object. I’d personally consider this a success, at least as a stepping stone!
After all, she doesn’t know what paper is and she doesn’t know a command to get that specific object. So she was just guessing! Once you teach her “paper” (or something else you want her to retrieve), then you can combine the task of “get/retrieve” and “object’s name” together.
