It is so incredible how smart dogs can be. I keep a list of words and phrases that Darcy knows, and it's up to 34, probably more. And by "knows" I mean "has a consistent and direct reaction to."
For example, if I tell him he's handsome, he'll get excited because we're talking about him. If I say "get daddy," he'll go find Marc. But it goes beyond simple trained commands and associations with this kid.
He understands sentences.
If he's looking for his ball and I say "you left it in the kitchen" he'll go to the kitchen and get it. He knows directions. I can tell him something is behind him or under something and he gets it.
It's kind of scary, honestly.
