This morning around 5:45am my buddy had a pretty bad seizure while he was sleeping, it only lasted maybe a minute, but we made sure he was being watched carefully and let him catch his footing, and now he’s doing better! He’s still pacing a bit, but we have him his medicine for epilepsy/anxiety and he’s way more alert and giving kisses and drinking his water! He’s the bestest boy ever, and he’s so so strong, especially for a 20 year old, old man! Please say a prayer, poor Bogey has had 3 major seizures since 11:30 last night. He is going to spend the day and night in the ER under the watching eyes of his neurologist, Veterinarian and team of amazing vet techs. Hopefully we’ll get this under control and baby boy will be home in the morning. Leo and I are at the vet today trying to figure out why he has these seizures and why they have been more frequent the last couple weeks and why he has had four of them in the past 24 hours! My companion is a little scared and I must admit I am too. Following my chronological(ish) peace cranes, today's prayer was to remember the wisdom and insight I have ALREADY learned. Today's application is not stress more than necessary before we really know what is going on. Prayers please for #leodog ! Today, I thought I'd tell you a little about Bear. I've told you that he is the star of our book "Bully Troubles" (available at Amazon &BNN.com) and you've seen the drawing Clark made of him that's available as a digital print at www.OHigginsGiftShoppe.etsy.com Bear will be 7 in August. He was a gift for me from my teacher when I was getting my medical assistant certification. From the beginning, we knew something was different. He's a border collie chow chow hybrid. Both are very hyperactive breeds. Bear never wanted to play much (except in the snow). Even as a puppy he just moped around. It would be years before we discovered he had idiopathic epilepsy. If you don't know the signs in a dog, you may just think they're quirky. Sadly, he suffered for years without us having a clue. Even the vet didn't suspect his quirky personality was hiding something much more sinister. When he was 4 years old, he had a cluster of grand mal seizures. He suffered from 20 seizures in 24 hours. It was the scariest 24 hours. He is now on medication to help prevent these seizures. He is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever known.
