I took a lot of notes on their comments, so I'll keep them all under the cut! Highlights: a lot of things were ad-libbed, and you might've heard that the last kiss was also not planned. And yes, Suzuki was going to jump off a bridge into the ocean after the break up in the script... Good for Takeuchi that he didn't have to do that! Read more below:
Ishii said Machida's hair and make up was very delicate (in the opening scene), and Takeuchi asked if he does hair and makeup when he's very busy, Machida said yes. Takeuchi said he can start a youtube channel lol
Ishii and Machida said it was hard walking down the stairs
Takeuchi said the necklace or bracelets worn by Suzuki seem like old Cartier from around 100 years ago, probably around 15,000,000 yen (almost 10k USD??)
Doi had diarrhea when they filmed the opening dances (which Takeuchi remembered as being on 12/28 last year!), but the rest could not tell
They intended for Aki to carry Suzuki's stuff as well, and everyone said he's the worst haha. When asked if it was actually heavy inside, Doi said "a little"
Everyone else said Ishii was so scary as Fusako quietly sitting there while Sugiki talked, Ishii laughed
They did not intend to take the confrontation scene outside originally, but Otomo rolled with it
Takeuchi said he doesn't go clubbing since he's not good with that sort of thing
The hungover scene (where Aki went over to kick the girls out) was all ad-libbed!
Doi pointed out the different temperatures that Aki and Suzuki are dressed for. They filmed this in December, so Doi felt goosebumps just looking at this scene
They commented on Aki putting on her sunglasses (at night) after saying Fusako is scary, calling it her protective armor
Machida said most of the first dance lesson scene was ad-libbed
Everyone cheered when Suzuki took his shirt off and commented on Fusako's expression, hahaha
Takeuchi asked what happened after Fusako walked away, and Ishii and Doi said Aki caught up to her and rode the escalator together to take the train
Machida called Suzuki technologically illiterate (when he couldn't play music), glad he thought the same as me!
Takeuchi said he wasn't acting during the princess waltz, and that standing by himself really was as tough as it looked
Everyone laughed at Suzuki's reaction to "did you feel like a princess", Machida said he likes that expression
Suzuki's "I like it, tastes like curry" was ad-libbed
The Cuban dance party was Doi's favorite scene
Apparently Takeuchi got a present from Netflix which was Cuban rum from 1962 (before the revolution), but he didn't bring it. Machida said it would've been nice to have it for the watch party
Takeuchi said Suzuki showing off the caller to Aki probably wasn't in the script
Takeuchi said he was the last to return from England during shooting, and the weather had been very good until his last day where it was windy and snowing, so everyone went home in a good mood while he was stuck in the cold
Takeuchi said he really liked the waltz scene, and also the water they drank afterward was delicious (Doi agreed)
Otomo decided to let them talk on separate floors, since it felt too personal and they (the characters) would get embarrassed. Machida said "like Romeo and Juliet" (so Sugiki is the Juliet at the balcony?)
Takeuchi really liked it when Sugiki said "take a break" after the tango, and wants a T-shirt with that face on it. The cast said some faces and lines can be used as stickers as well
Takeuchi said he practiced the Spanish lines with the actor for the bartender (Jordy Miwa, who's also posted BTS pictures on his Instagram) when they went out to eat beforehand. Machida said he should've done that with Martha
Machida said that the lights were like the illuminations in England, and Doi said maybe Sugiki got reminded of that during that scene
Doi said it would be scary if there was a man (Sugiki dancing on his own) like this during Christmas
They kept calling Suzuki finding Sugiki dancing alone a "Christmas miracle"
Takeuchi said the bar scene with Sugiki's secret is his favorite "flow" in the movie, and his favorite scene was Sugiki dressing Fusako up (he did not think "Fuego" would be playing in this scene), and cheered when Sugiki said "you wanna know how I made her dance?", he got goosebumps every time
The scene where Suzuki says "that's lame" to Sugiki was different from the script
They said the kiss scene was taken around 3-4 times (I didn't understand the subtitles completely), and they really were filming while the train was moving, about 2-3 minutes between each station
The piece of green decor wrapping them together was not planned, "a miracle" as Takeuchi called it
The cast said Sugiki had found his angel
Takeuchi wondered where Sugiki lived, since he ran onto the train, and everyone was laughing. Machida said they could've gotten off together
Machida said in the script, they made the phone call while both were on the train
They filmed in Blackpool for two weeks
They chuckled at Suzuki's sulky nod on the bed, saying that his expression is like a child, and they laughed and Doi asked why Sugiki made the bed for him
They said that Giulio and Fusako would've done the honor dance together as well, and Ishii chuckled asking "You're interested?"
They complimented Nadiya's (who played Liana) neck muscles, Takeuchi asking what do to for it to look like that
They said the Blackpool illuminations were already there during filming, and Doi said it links this scene and the train scene together
Takeuchi said the lines for the bedroom scene were changed slightly
Doi confirmed that Aki and Fusako went out to drink
Doi started laughing during the makeout scene because she met Ishii's eyes without thinking
Machida and Takeuchi said that scene was done about 3-4 times
In an earlier draft of the script, Suzuki was going to jump off the bridge (NAKED) into the sea after the break up scene, but after how that scene turned out, they thought that that was enough
Aki and Suzuki's embracing scene was completely different from the script and was changed by Otomo on the spot
Takeuchi had a fever on the day they filmed the scene in the boutique, noticed only by the make up artist. He kept it a secret from everyone including Doi. She said they kept practicing after shooting that, and he said that once his blood started moving, his fever went away
When Suzuki looks in the mirror during his hold, Machida joked that he saw Martha Milton
Machida only went in for a little while to shoot that shot, so the two did not talk a lot that day. He was like a ghost, coming in then saying "good work today" and leaving
Takeuchi asked what ranking they got in the final competition, and Doi confirmed it was third place
Machida liked the line "I want move the audience like that every time"
Machida was sure that Sugiki asking Suzuki for the honor dance had to be Fusako's arrangement
Takeuchi revealed that Suzuki kissed the ring as a gesture to call Sugiki
Takeuchi throwing away his medal was not planned
Takeuchi said the footwork for the tango was very difficult
Machida's favorite was the slow foxtrot
Takeuchi wondered why he took his shirt off for the paso doble
Ishii said they could only practice the Viennese waltz once
Machida said the last extra peck was ad-libbed
Ishii said everyone was doing left and right turns very easily, while she kept doing right turns
More pictures from the upcoming 10 Dance movie have been released on the Netflix Japan Twitter! Additional pictures can be found on the actors’ Instagrams and websites writing about this (source). There’s a picture of the Shinyas dancing Latin and smiling onstage! A welcome change since the trailer looks so serious. There’s also a picture of the Shinyas talking at a foot bridge, and one of the few moments Suzuki looks shorter than Sugiki when their actors have the opposite height difference, haha. We also get a proper look at the ladies Fusako and Aki, and they look gorgeous!
Netflix’s 10 Dance comes out 18th of December, less than 3 weeks away!
