When I was a teen I didn't like age gap yaois but DM is somehow both old man AND age gap yaoi and that really scratches something in my brain. As much as I love the moments in the Devil's Minion chapter, ageing Daniel up really was a great choice
Like yes Armand is 7 times older than Daniel, but because he's been physically 27 for almost his entire life (17 in the books), Daniel still has more life experience that is typical for a human; getting married, divorced, having children, advancing in his career, and growing wrinkles. Armand, despite having knowledge accumulated over five centuries and acting older for his perceived age because of it, will never know what that feels like. I love the fact that their age gap isn't only in terms of chronology but also the social aspects of what it means to grow old and experience life. They both simultaneously know more and less about "being old" than the other person, similar but also completely different in that sense
