Seventeen's “Thanks” Choreographic Genius Part 3: Basically Fangirling Over The Choreography
I should think that most people would like choreographies mostly because of the visuals, and that is exactly what Seventeen has. Because Seventeen has so many freaking members, they have the potential to create really good formations and canons and things like that, which other groups who might have like 6 or 7 members don’t. So here is basically me fangirling over the sheer visual aesthetics of their “Thanks” choreography just because.

Let me say this again: there are so many of them.
They move in and out of formations so smoothly and they are always where they are supposed to be, so their formations are always PERFECT. Like wow, look at their perfect lines in this gif.
Also, they create really nice contrasts in their formations so that those who are singing becomes the main focus, and it’s BEAUTIFUL.
In the gif below, it’s so pretty how Josh becomes the main focus, but there's so much movement going on around him and the energy just swirling around him is just oh my god.
And in this next gif, Woozi also becomes the main focus because a) the heights (everyone suddenly went down which creates a really nice contrast between Jihoon & Josh, and the the rest) and b) Woozi is the only one not moving. This is such a typical choreographic tool to use, but it’s tried-and-tested and just basically so, so beautiful when done well (as it is here).
Also, can I just say that I love this formation (see image below) so much?? I like how half the members are standing and the other half are on the ground, so there’s this sense of differing heights that somehow make the choreography more engaging (kind of 3D??). Also, because they’re in this sort of V-shaped formation, the eyes are automatically drawn to the middle so whoever’s in the middle now becomes the focus. A fun fact: this tool is actually very much used in ballet to place the corps de ballet members around the main dancer so that they make the main dancer the focus, and here, Seventeen uses it really nicely as well!
I mean, for me, there’s nothing much to say about canons other than why are they so beautiful my gosh.
The next few gifs are pretty self-explanatory, I think most people can appreciate canons, right?
Ok, but this next canon though, I want to comment a tiny bit. There are like THREE canons overlapping throughout that entire sequence and it blows my mind. I have no idea how to put the feels I have for this choreography into words, but just watch the video and bask in that beauty, ‘kay.
I just...really have nothing to say. Their dancing is beautiful. Their choreography is beautiful. Their music is beautiful. Put all of those together, and you get a really, really, REALLY beautiful piece of dancing.
