Doki girls as Mermaids in spirits of Mermay.

OKAY, okay, so, I have a little theory.

I’m basing this off the Yuri as Libitina theory, keep that in mind.

In the official posters of the characters, we see a set of strings around the necks and other parts of the girls, but the one who seems to be lacking these strings is Yuri, more accurately, the strings are emerging from her heart/flower.

Now, the strings are red. My idea is that the more red the girls have on their clothing/accesories, the more they’re controlled by Yuri’s psychic powers.

Monika is the one with less red on her desing, only having the red bow on her uniform, so that would explain how she snaps out of it and becomes self aware. 

Next is Sayori, who has the red bow both on her uniform and her hair. Yes, I do know she becomes self aware too at the ending, but it seems that she doesen’t know as much as Monika does, proven by the fact that she can’t tamper with the game files like Monika can. I mean, she thanks you for eliminating her, if she could she would have done it before. 

Finally, Natsuki’s the one with the most red on her desing, with the red strings on both her pigtails, her red bow on the uniform and her red hair clips. She appears as the most confused with all the things that are happening, and never becomes self aware like the other girls.
