“I don’t know why you’re so nervous.”
Grayson sighed as he watched you flatten out your skirt for what seemed like the thirtieth time that night.
“You don’t know them like I do, Gray.” You looked at yourself in the mirror, trying to make sure you fixed every inconsistency you saw. “They take every opportunity they get to pick me apart and analyze every possible thing that’s wrong with me.” You turned around to look at him. “And that’s not gonna be an exception for you.”
“What, you think they won’t like me?” He eyed you warily as he leaned back on his arms, the cushion of the bed sinking further under his weight.
“No, baby. They’ll adore you.” You ran your fingers over your hair, pinning back the strands that were poking out. “I’m just anxious.” You huffed, letting your arms drop to your sides in defeat. “They’re gonna love you. They’ll probably just be trying to convince you that you should find someone better if I’m being honest.” You placed your hands on your waist, squeezing on your stomach to try and make yourself look thinner. Your stiff shoulders soon relaxed, however, when you felt Grayson’s warm hands on top of yours and the heat of his breath on the back of your neck.
“First of all, that’s ridiculous. You’re the best I could ever ask for.” His arms circled around your waist and he placed sweet kisses on your neck and shoulders. “And secondly, don’t stress so much. They’re your parents. I’m sure you’re overreacting.”
“I wish I was.” You sighed again, turning around in his arms. You began fiddling with the collar of Grayson’s tux, straightening out his tie as well. “They are going to judge me so hard if this doesn’t go perfectly.”
“Does what they think really matter that much?” You looked up at him expectantly, as if he should already know the answer. “What, is there something about me your parents won’t like?”
“No, babe.” You pressed your forehead to his chest, and Grayson kissed your hair.
“I want them to like me gorgeous, I really do. But you can’t stress over this so much.”
“I know...” you looked up at him. “I just want them to see how amazing you are.”
“That’s sweet, babe.” He stepped back from you, making sure to look you in the eye. “But both of us know that’s not the case.”
You rolled her eyes. “Fine, I just don’t want them to think I’m a failure yet again, okay?” You turned back to the mirror and went to fix the straps of your dress. “Is that so wrong?”
“Of course not, sweet cheeks.” He turned you around by your shoulders, and you scoffed at him. “Look, we're just going to go hang out with your family, and have some fun, okay?”
You sighed, placing your arms near the bottom of his neck. “I should be the one calming YOU down about meeting my parents, not the other way around.”
Grayson leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to your lips, then pressed his forehead against yours. “Tonight is going to go well, I promise.”
You bit your lip. “Okay.” You let your fingers run down his chest. “It’s just been so long since I’ve seen them.”
“Well, that’ll make it even better when you get to see them again.” He tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “You do want to see them, don’t you?”
You shrugged. “Yea… Mostly my sister though. It’s been ages since I’ve seen her.” You walked over to the bed and plopped down onto the cushion. “Kate’s gotten so busy ever since she had Josh.”
“Oh, yea? What’s he like?” Gray walked over to you and settled himself down next to you.
“Oh, he’s just the most adorable thing ever. Kate always dresses him up in the cutest little onesies.” You smile. “The last time I saw him was… probably his first birthday.” Your eyes widen. “Wow. that was like, five months ago.” You turn to Grayson, then smile. “He’s probably up on his feet waddling around by now.”
“Will I get to meet him?”
“I’m assuming she’s bringing him tonight.”
“That’ll be fun.” Grayson smiled to himself.
“You’re going to love him.” You rub his leg eagerly. “Whenever I used to hold him, he’d grab onto my pinky. His hands were so small and cute.”
“Doesn’t your sister have a little girl, too?”
“Yes! Maya. She’s the most amazing thing ever. She just turned five two months ago.” You sighed. “I wasn’t able to go see her, but I sent her a little Teddy Bear with her name stitched onto the foot. I didn’t get to see her reaction, but Kate told me she loved it.”
“That’s so cute.”
“I know. And she’s the most talkative little girl I’ve ever met. And her hugs are the best thing in the world…” You slump against Grayson, sighing again. “God, I love them so much.”
“And I’m so excited to meet them.” Grayson rubbed your shoulder and kissed your forehead. “But I can’t do that if we don’t get going!” He got up from the bed, pulling you up with him. “C'mon. Let’s get our coats on.”
You smile. “Okay. Let’s go.”
——
“Stop freaking out.”
“I’m not freaking out.”
“Then stop fiddling with your dress.”
“You’re fiddling with your dress!”
“Okay, babe.” He laughed, and you narrowed your eyes at him.
“Don’t make fun!”
“I’m not.” Grayson reached down and grabbed your hand, squeezing it tight. “Chill out. This will be fun.” You couldn’t stop fidgeting, but you found that focusing on the warmth of Grayson’s hand seemed to calm you down a bit.
“I hope so.” You took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
“Here we go.”
A few seconds later, the door opened to reveal the face of your mother.
“Y/N! You finally made it. It’s gotten so late, I was starting to think you weren’t coming.”
You rolled your eyes. This was going to be a long night.
“Sorry, mom.”
“Well don’t just stand there, come in!”
She stepped to the side and opened the door wider to allow both you and Grayson to come through. You shivered as you looked around the house like it was just hitting you that this was the place you grew up in. You realized that you hadn’t been here since last Christmas, and it was quite chilling to see that the place had barely changed.
You gave your mom a quick hug. Despite the uneasiness you were feeling at the moment, your mom’s familiar scent brought out a new kind of warmth you had forgotten about.
“And this must be Grayson?”
“Yes, it’s so good to finally meet you.” Grayson rubbed his shoes on the front mat, then went to give Your mom a hug. He had to bend down quite a bit to give her a tight squeeze, and you had to admit it warmed your heart to see them finally meet each other.
“I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to finally meet.” She gave you a side glance, and you rolled your eyes.
“Oh, believe me, I’ve been nagging her about it for ages.” Grayson chuckled.
“Hey, it’s been a busy couple of months.” You crossed her arms and huffed.
“Yes, it always is, dear.” She patted Your arm firmly before turning her attention back to Grayson. “Please, take off your coats, get comfortable!”
You and Grayson hung your coats up and followed her into the house. She sat down on the armchair, while you and Gray sat on the love seat.
“We’re really sorry about running late,” Grayson mentioned as he sat down. “It was my fault, I got out of work late tonight.”
“Oh not a problem, dear. I’m just glad you were able to make it.” Your mom made herself comfortable in her seat. “What is it that you do? Y/N never got around to telling me.”
“Oh, I’m a Y-“ you squeezed his thigh hard, hoping to god that he’d come up with something else to say.
He coughed. “Um, I’m a videographer.” He paused. “And a... media influencer.”
Your mom blinked. “I see... so what do you do exa-“
“Hey, mom!” You jumped in. “Do you happen to still have that tea I used to love?”
“Oh, yes!” She looked over at Grayson. “It’s absolutely amazing. How about I go grab you a cup?”
“Oh, don’t worry, I’m fine.” Grayson got halfway out of his seat to stop your mom, but she waved him back down.
“Please, It’s not a problem at all! I’ll be right back.”
He smiled. “Alright, thank you.”
“Of course, dear.” She walked off to the kitchen.
Grayson looked over at you. “What was that about?”
“What was what about?” You wrung your fingers.
“Babe.”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Why don’t you want me to tell her I’m a Youtuber?” He asked.
You looked over your shoulder in alarm. “Yes, please, tell the whole house while you’re at it.”
“Are you embarrassed by me?”
You jerked your head over to face him so fast. “What?”
“You’re embarrassed that I’m a YouTuber.” His shoulders slumped as he came to the realization. “That’s what you’ve been worried about. That I don’t have a real job.”
His face fell as he said those words, the light and excitement in his eyes immediately going out. It almost looked like there was a hint of betrayal in his eyes.
But the way he said it made your heart your heart break.
“Baby, no. You know that’s not true.” You went to reach for his thigh but he scooted over, out of your reach.
“Do I, though? Isn’t that what you’ve been stressing about?”
“No, Gray. I promise that’s not the issue. It’s never an issue-“ but you weren’t able to finish your thought because your mom came back into the room. You and a Grayson tried to regain your composure quickly, and you both smiled at her as she set her tray with the three teacups onto the coffee table. She handed a cup to both you and Grayson. Grayson thanked her for the tea, sipping on it gratefully.
“Wow, this really is good.”
“Of course.” Your mom made herself comfortable once more in the armchair. “So, Grayson, tell me. How was Y/N able to pick up such a fine young man such as yourself?”
You cringed. “Mom!”
Grayson laughed. “That’s very kind of you, but...” he glanced over at you. “I really think you should be asking it the other way around.”
You blinked at him.
“I… I honestly don’t know how I was lucky enough to end up with her.”
You were confused. You could feel your face heating up already.
Does this mean you’re not mad? You wanted to ask him, but all you could do was look at his eyes in wonder, not even trying to fight back your goofy smile as you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
“That’s so sweet.” Your mom smiled at Grayson. “So, when do you plan on putting a ring on that finger of hers?”
“MOM!” Your face flushed, and you almost dropped your cup full of tea. This was definitely pushing it.
“What? I’m genuinely curious.”
Grayson froze for a moment but then chuckled. He looked into your eyes for a moment, with a little bit of hesitation, but the eager look in your eyes seemed to make him forget why he was unhappy in the first place. He reached for the hand resting on your knee and squeezed it. “I think I should best keep that a surprise.”
“This is too much for me.” You said, mouth agape, then you buried your face in your hands, causing both Grayson and your mom to laugh.
“Darling, where’s the key to the liquor cabinet?” You heard a shout coming from upstairs.
“Oh for god-“ your mom huffed, then glanced over at you. “That father of yours.” She looked over at Grayson. “Give me a moment, will you?”
“Take your time.”
She went up to leave. But you grabbed your hand to stop her.
“Wait, where’s Kate and the kids?” You asked your mom.
“Oh, Kate’s upstairs, cleaning baby josh up. Maya is playing in the family room.”
“Thanks, mom.” She smiled and left to find your dad. You finally released the breath you didn’t know you were holding. You immediately turned to Gray.
“Did you mean that?”
“Hm?” He innocently took a sip of his tea.
“Don’t give me that.” You took the cup from him and placed it on the coffee table next to yours. “About the...” you coughed. “The ring thing.”
“Why, do you not want to marry a lousy YouTuber?” Grayson huffed.
“No! I mean- ugh, yes!” You exclaimed, almost jumping out of your seat. “I do want to marry you.” You reach for his face, and this time he leans into your hand, giving you a flush of relief. You smiled at him gently. “So badly..”
He grabbed your hand and rubbed his thumb gently over the back of it. “You do?”
“Yes! I want to get married and have a bunch of little babies.”
He chuckled. “That sounds amazing.” He brought your hand down from his face and held it in his lap.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hidden your job from my mom. I wasn’t thinking and I got nervous. She’s old, and she’s quick to make assumptions. I just didn’t want her writing you off the minute she met you, yknow?”
He sighed. “Yea, I understand.”
“And I love your job, you know that already. I think it’s amazing that you get to do what you love and make so many other people happy in the process.”
He grinned at you. “Yea, it is pretty cool.”
“And, you know, the only reason why my parents haven’t pegged me as a failure yet is that I’m still in school, so I have an excuse for not being completely successful.” You pause. “Although... technically speaking, with that mindset they’d love you even more than they’ve ever loved me, considering you’re way more successful than me or-“
Grayson laughed, putting a stop to your rambling. He bent down and kissed you, lingering for a bit before pulling away.
“It’s okay. I get it. You were just looking out for me.“
You smiled. “Yea.”
He kissed your knuckles. “You will tell her though, eventually. Right?”
“Definitely.”
“That’s good enough for me.”
You were so lucky you had him.
“Hey.” You grabbed his arm and pulled him down to your level. “You think you can survive with my mom while I go talk to my sister?” you whispered in his ear.
He smiled. “I’ll be fine.”
“Thank you.” You kissed his cheek lightly before running off upstairs.
___
After a long talk and some much overdue catching up with your sister, you made your way downstairs to refill your drink. You were about to make your way to the wine cabinet when you spotted a small figure out of the corner of your eye sitting in the living room.
“Are you the special little girl I’ve been hearing about all night?”
You peaked your head around the corner to see Grayson sitting cross-legged beside your niece, giving her a great big smile. She looked up at him, her eyes furrowed.
“Me?”
“Yea! You’re Maya, right?”
She nodded.
He held his hand out for her. “It’s very nice to meet you, Maya. I’m Grayson.”
She hesitated, but then placed her hand in his. He brought her small hand up to his lips and pressed a kiss to it, and she giggled.
“Who are you?”
“Oh, well.. You know your Mommy’s sister?”
“Auntie Y/N?”
“Yep. I’m her boyfriend.”
Her mouth shaped a little ‘o’, “So you’re my uncle?”
Grayson shrugged. “Well, we’re not married. But I guess you could call me that.”
“Are you going to marry Auntie Y/N?”
Grayson’s face tinted a bit pink, while yours flushed from behind the corner. “You know, a lot of people seem to be asking me that today.” He booped Maya on the nose, and she giggled again. “But yes, I certainly hope so.”
“Why do you hope so?”
“Well, because she’s the best girl I’ve ever met.” You couldn’t help but smile. “Apart from you of course.”
“What!” Maya laughed. “But you just met me!”
“Right, but I know a princess when I see one.” He winked at her.
“Well, what are you then?”
She tapped her chin. “I’m a fairy.”
Grayson gasped. “Why am I just hearing about this? Auntie Y/N never told me you were a fairy!”
She placed a finger to her lips. “Shh! Nobody knows yet. Not even my Mommy.”
“Oh,” Grayson whispered. “When do you plan on telling them.”
“Not yet. You have to keep it a secret!”
Grayson placed a hand to his chest. “I swear I’ll never tell another soul.”
She giggled again, and Grayson got up to his feet. “So, if you’re a fairy that means you can fly, right?” He bent down, and pick her up with both arms, and she yelled and laughed in delight.
“Wow! Look at how fast you can go!” He spun her around the room, and she laughed even more, spreading her arms out like she was really flying.
You couldn’t stop your grin from growing looking at the two of them. You walked into the room, right up to the two of them.
“What’s this I hear about flying?”
Maya immediately looked at Grayson and put her finger to her lips again. Grayson set her down on the ground. “Oh.. I was just telling Maya about this butterfly I saw the other day. I decided to show her how fast it was going.”
You crossed your arms and raised an eyebrow at the little girl, and she smiled innocently. “It was going VERY fast.”
You smiled. “Okay, run along, you. Your mom is looking for you.”
Maya skipped out of the room, looking back at Grayson and putting her finger to her lips one more time. He zipped his lips and threw away the imaginary key, then waved bye to her.
“She is adorable.” Grayson looked over at you and grinned. “I get why you love her so much.”
“I’m glad you love her just as much as I do.” You placed your hands on the sides of his neck, smiling at him. “You’re amazing, you know that?”
“Funny, I was just thinking the same thing about you.” He placed one hand on your hip and the other on the small of your back, then bent down to press a kiss against your lips. You pulled away from him, giving him a sly look. “Let’s get something to drink.”
___
“I should not have let you get something to drink.”
After saying your goodbyes, taking a few more glasses of wine than you should have, and a long car ride later, Grayson dragged a stumbling you back into your bedroom, setting you gently onto the bed.
“Oh, please.” You slurred your words as you spoke and Gray couldn’t help but try and keep back a laugh. “I drank just enough, thank you very much.”
“Right.” He crouched down near the foot of the bed and began pulling your heels off. “You are so lucky that Maya fell asleep before you got those last glasses in.”
“Hey, I knew what I was doing. I’m a responsible aunt.” You said, grabbing onto his shoulders.
“Of course you did baby, you’re so smart like that.” He took your hands off of him and got up, picking you up to your feet.
You pulled your arms away from him only to let them snake up his chest and around his neck. “You were really good with Maya today,” You said in your drunken haze. “You’re gonna be such a good dad.”
He laughed. “I’m glad you think that, darling.”
You leaned in just enough for him to smell your perfume. “Have you ever thought about…” You pressed your mouth against his ear. “Us having a baby?”
“Jesus, now I KNOW you drank way too much.” He tried to pull you off of him, but you were adamant.
“Cmon, Gray…” You played with the collar of his suit. “Have you ever?”
He chuckled, then it turned into a sigh. “What do you want me to say, gorgeous? Of course, I have.”
You kissed his neck, sucking on the skin, your hands roaming his body.
“Baby, what has gotten into you?”
You smirked. “Let’s make a baby.”
Grayson’s jaw dropped. “What??”
“Let’s make a baby. Right now.” You pressed your sloppy lips against his, and he legitimately laughed as he pulled away from you.
“Jesus Christ, gorgeous. Let’s get you to bed.”
“Grayson, you’re not taking me seriously!” He pulled you off of him, setting you back down on the bed. He went over to the dresser to get you a pair of PJs.
“Of course I am, baby. Just not as seriously as you want me to.” He chuckled, throwing the clothes onto the bed, then pulling your dress off of you.
You huffed. “I wanna have your baby, Grayson.”
He put your pajama shirt over your head. “And I want you to have my baby too, darling. Just not right now!” He walked into the bathroom.
“Why not?” You yelled. “I thought you loved babies!”
“I do.” He peeked around the corner. “Where are your makeup wipes?”
“Who cares? Listen to me!” Grayson sighed, disappearing again behind the wall. “What is it? Let’s have a baby.”
He triumphantly walked out of the bathroom holding the wipes. “Darling, you’re talking absolute nonsense! You’re still in school for god’s sake, and- You are too drunk for us to be having this conversation!” He wiped your lipstick off of your face.
“I am not!” You swatted his hand away, and he rolled his eyes.
“Fine. You want an answer?” You nodded at him eagerly. “Alright. You know why I don’t want a baby right now? Because we’re not ready, angel! We’re kids. We’re just dumb, kids, who like to play with younger more adorable dumb kids.” He sat down on the bed next to you. “Of course I want to have a baby with you, you know that’s all I’ve ever wanted, and so badly. But right now, I just want to spend my time with you.”
“You spend enough time with me already!”
He smiled. “I know that sober Y/N wouldn’t even dream of having a child before finishing school, getting married…” He cupped your face. “But in a few years, of course. Of COURSE, yes.”
You groaned. “What is wrong with you? I’m literally sitting in front of you right now with no shirt on, literally ASKING for it. It’s not like you’re taking advantage of me, I’m your GIRLFRIEND!”
He laughed. “Arms up.” You listened, although adamantly, and he pulled your PJ shirt over your head. “How come this is the first time I’m hearing about you wanting kids so bad? You’ve never even mentioned wanting to marry me before.”
Your face heated up. “Because… It’s embarrassing.” You muttered, crossing your arms.
“God, you are a mess.” He threw your pants at you, it hitting your face.
“GRAYSON!”
“Go to sleep, baby.”
“I can’t believe you.”
“I’m going to change.”
“We’re not done with this conversation!”
“Uhuh.”
“GraYSON!!”
___
A few minutes later, Grayson made his way out of the bathroom to find you curled up under the covers, fast asleep.
“God, you cutie.” He walked back to the bed, crawling under the covers beside you, then he pressed a kiss to your temple. “Goodnight.”
The next morning, Grayson woke up to your grinning face hovering over him.
“Guess what, Gray?”
“Mmmwhat?” he groaned.
“I still want a baby.”
“Shut the fuck up!” He pushed you over, flopping you down onto your back and tickling you as you both laughed.
“Ok ok ok!” You grabbed his face and kissed him, making his arms go limp. When you pulled away, it was like he was looking at you for the first time again. “You’re right. I don’t want a baby.”
You pressed your forehead against his. “For now.”
She leaned in again, pressing his lips firmly on yours while his arms snuck around you, squeezing you tight. When he pulled away, you were both breathless.
“Me too.” He said. “Because right now, you’re all I need.”
I took a big sigh when I sat down to my seat on the plane and I was on my way to Los Angeles. A gigantic adventure is in front of me. So far, I thought it was all just a childish dream, that I will never accomplish. The American dream. However, when I began to pack my suitcase and I saw the concern in my parent's eyes I knew that this the reality and I really go to LA.
I wanted to enjoy every minute of it. I could say that money and work was just an excuse to go there. Obviously I am not gonna get rich from babysitting, in fact I probably gonna need my collected money too to live there, but right now this is what seems the right decision for me. I want to enjoy every moments what I spend there, maybe that is why I wrote a kinda crazy bucket list. If I just check a few thing from it, I'll be happy and maybe I am not gonna be so so desperate if I think that years go by and I almost don't live.
I could tell that I had everything at home. Even though I am 22, I still live with my family. We moved to a new town a year ago. I thought the new town is gonna bring some excitement to my life. It brought, but not enough.
I was a 22 year old hungarian girl, who still lived with their parents and her sister and who still tried to figure out what to do with her life. It's not easy. I didn't went to uni, I thought it's not for me and I don't need it so I worked at my dad's company. I helped with the paperworks and stuff and basically got as much money as I would got for working somewhere everyday. Yeah, it's easy and I was lucky but I felt like I needed new things in my life. I wanted to get to know more people, I wanted to travel. I had dreams and plans, I was just a little bit afraid of my feature. That's all.
If I should describe myself with three worlds that would be family oriented, powerful and stubborn. I am definitely not an easy girl. I hate when someone tells me what to do or someone just tells me what I say is not true. Maybe it's just a sagittarius thing. We are all a bit crazy. It's pretty easy to upset me, but after I shout for a few minutes I calm down pretty quickly, I can forget the whole thing in a minute, so I am definitely not rancorous.
But if I love someone, I love with a full heart. Maybe that's why I never had boyfriend before. I've had a few boys in my life. Sometimes I was so in love, or i think I was, but they weren't. And sometimes they was so in love, but I wasn't. Teen loves are kinda complicated, but now I think I would be ready for a relationship, or not? I don't know. But that would be fun to finally find a guy who gets my attention. I don't even know what love feels like at this point.
My life is a mess, but it could be worse. Don't it? I was happy, i just needed new adventures because I was a bit unmotivated and I felt like I need to figure out my life.
The first shock came when I got off from the plane, got my package, and then realized that I am all by myself in a unknown location, with unknown people. In the bustling airport I needed to take a big sigh. So many people run around me and I just tried to not panic already in my first minutes in LA. It was a bit scary at first but I knew it really is something that I wanted, and I am strong enough to get through this.
A week later
A week later I was still quite lost, but it's started to get better. My boss, Veronica or Mrs. Adams definitely helped a lot. She was a blonde women, who was around her forties. Her husband is an american businessman, so they mostly spoke in english to their daughter. Mrs. Adams wanted a hungarian babysitter next to their four years old daughter, Sophie so she could start to learn hungarian too.
I applied to the job with the calm of not even having a chance and I was shocked, when they called me back. I was even more shocked when they liked me after the personal interview and basically said that they are gonna take care of everything, I just need to travel there.
My job was to spend a few hours a day with Sophie, who was a really easy child to manage actually. I loved children anyway but I was really happy that I can see how she develop from days to days. She quickly got into my heart.
They were right. After a few days I got my visa and Veronica even helped me to find an apartment. With the visa I could officially stay for one years, but it can be extended for two more years. It obviously depended upon the family and me. It wasn't the longest time, but for now it was perfect for me. I guess a lot of things can happen in two years.
Maybe this week was only enough to not get lost immediately, when I step out of my apartment door. It's just a completely different world, busy city filled with young people. I had no idea what was waiting for me in the future, my excitement was mixed with a little bit of fear, but I knew that if I persevere, it will be easier.
While I sat on my living room couch I looked at the lights of Los Angeles through the huge window. Soft music sounded from the background. I bit my lip when I picked up the paper from the caffetable. Bucket list. I quickly ran through it again, and picked up a pen and checked off my first paragraph.
Hey loves. I’m kinda new here, so if you wanna, reblog or follow. The title of this blurb(?) is one of my favorite songs, Moonlight Cocktail by Glenn Miller
warnings: none.
pairing: Ethan Dolan x reader
summary: Y/N wants to dance. They do, but what happens when someone interrupts and she feels overwhelmed?
Masterlist
“Need is too much of a word, Ethan. But maybe I am knee deep- no, I’m drowning in want. Like a bee in honey,” Y/N muttered out, smiling at the man across her.
“Y/N. Shut up.” He looked at her. Annoyed, but loving. That’s what Ethan felt all of the time. Or at least when he was with his love.
“I want to dance, Ethan Grant,” she whispered.
They were at a fancy ball Ethan had to attend and Y/N was, of course, his plus-one.
She always was.
Ethan hesitated for a second, but a look at her pleading eyes broke his stoic posture, smiling at the way they lit up whenever she danced.
It’s been a long time since Ethan’s last dance. His feet forgot the pattern of the simple dance, laughing when he made a wrong move and their feet ended up bumping against each other for what seems like twentieth time in the last five minutes. Y/N laughed it out.
“If i fall, I’m bringing you down with me.” Ethan smiled, his hazel eyes amused by the way Y/N gracefully moved around.
“You can’t be that bad at Viennese waltz!” She sighed out, seemingly frustrated by the way he clumsily moved his feet.
“Maybe you should find yourself a new dance partner?”
Y/N scoffs, “No. The new one isn’t you,” she cries out when Ethan steps on her toes.
Swearing, she smiles when she catches the camera producing a blinding light.
Jesus, can the pair ever get some privacy?
“Ethan Dolan! Such a wonder to see you here!”
Y/N walked off when she heard her boyfriend engage into a conversation she didn’t want to participiate in.
She sat at the table, drinking expensive wine and politely chatting with the people that were sitting with her.
At one point, she got too tired with socializing, excusing herself and going to the restroom.
“Y/N?”
A gentle knock on the door. Ethan. Slowly opening the door, he saw his tired love and smiled fondly. Even if she was petrified of social gatherings, she did it for him, to have him climb up to the top.
He felt so guilty he just embraced her, his strong arms engulfing her. Warmth and love- that’s what the girl felt everytime Ethan hugged her. He should’ve realized earlier, saw her tired eyes that weren’t shining the way they were when they were dancing and stepping on each other’s toes. Then he realized- the shine died as soon as James started talking to him.
The ride home was quiet. Neither of the two had the strength to talk.
Her navy blue dress was already unbuttoned and unzipped. She hated the feeling of tightness the dress left on her skin.
He took a long look at Y/N. She was focused on the road, looking as dreamy as ever with her messy hair that was put in an updo as soon as they entered the vehicle.
She loved messy hairstyles, and so did Ethan.
He always said they matched her personality - she was wild and untamed, her words always coming out before she thought them out. There was something childish in Y/N- something that made Ethan love her even more, something daring. It was as if you were taking care of a lioness. She could be soft and sweet, but at the same time, she could tear everything, including his heart, apart in a matter of seconds. It was a game of luck.
Behind the antisocial and lonely girl, she was bonkers. And just when you thought you reached the bottom of her craziness, you discover you have an underground garage full of crazy.
And Ethan loved that.
There was a handful of perks dating a girl slightly off her rockers.
There was something rewarding in handling her like no one else can. He just had to dig deep enough to find the chest with hidden treasure. And among other things, part of the treasure were exciting conversations, R-rated movies, and getting drunk on a Thursday night.
Soon they were home, Ethan in his sweatpants and Y/N in his old white shirt.
She walked over to the pool, a bottle of wine in her left hand and two wine glasses in her right.
Ethan walked out behind her.
She sat on the edge of the pool, dipping her legs in the water, and setting the content she carried softly onto the ground.
“Where’s Gray?”
“Oh, he told me he was staying at Becca’s tonight.”
Y/N smiled.
They drank the wine Ethan poured into their glasses.
Suddenly, she stood up and twirled, sighing when she looked down.
“I’m bored,” Y/N said hazily, the wine getting to her head
“What do you want me to do?”
“I don’t have an idea.”
“Let’s teach me how to dance.”
“Whatever.”
And that moment, Ethan knew she was a pure soul.
And when you are a pure soul, you don’t lose people. People lose you.
“Are you sure you’re gunna be alright, y/n ?” My mom asked as I put the last suitcase in the taxi. Today was move in day at UCLA and my mom was nervous enough for me.
“I’ll be fine mom. It’s not even that far of a drive from here, calm down.”
My dad left ten years ago when I was eight. It’s just been my mom and I. I didn’t want to leave her, but she’s an adult and needs to do things on her own. That’s why I’m getting a dorm at UCLA.
“I just want you to be careful, okay?”
“ Yes mom, I know. I’ll be okay.” I responded quickly. I was starting to get a bit annoyed. I hugged her once more before leaving. Waving goodbye as The car pulled out of the driveway. After a while, I soon arrived at the campus of the school. It was huge.
I got out of the taxi and got my bags from the trunk after paying the driver. I went to the registration table and picked up my information. I was so focused on finding my room I didn’t notice the box in front of me on the floor. I tripped and went crashing down with a loud yelp. My papers and bags went flying.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry, my brother was supposed to move that. Are you okay?!”
I looked up and was met with bright green eyes and a perfectly shaped face. OH MY GOD!!!
“Um... yeah I’m fine. “ I nodded my head violently and bit my bottom lip.
We both stood up as he handed me my papers.
“ I’m Grayson.” He said sticking out his hand for me to shake.
“I’m y/n.” I said taking his hand.
“ nice to meet you. Sorry again about the box, my brother was supposed to move it. Are you sure your okay?”
He asked me again. I giggled and nodded.
“I’m fine. I better get going.” I said pointing down the hall. I walked passed him with my bags and papers. I got a few feet away when I heard a voice along my name. I turned around and Grayson was jogging behind to catch up.
“Can I get your number?” He asked pointing to his phone. You nodded and took his phone putting your name and number in his phone.
“See you later.” You said waving and walking to your dorm room.
everything is better when you’re asleep. nightmares aren’t real, and dreams come true. living in a paradise where no harm comes to you and able to live out your wildest fantasies. you can live the life you’re not allowed to live. you can live the life that was taken away from you. you can live the life where he still loved you.
waking up from a nightmare is a relief. “𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘦,” you laugh, and your entire body slowly starts to relax. having a dream is amazing, experiencing things no longer possible, and situations you know will never happen in the physical realm. living in a state of pure bliss and ecstasy.
but then you wake up. and 𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭.
you wake up in a cold sweat, and as soon as you become consciously aware that you’re awake, you begin to cry.
𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭.
it’s funny how fast a dream can become a nightmare.
you had dreamt that he had ran to you, ran to embrace you and hold you and tell you that he still loved you and that he was sorry. he had ran to tell you that he still thought of you everyday and missed the sight of you every single day. he planted a kiss on your forehead and he choked up, saying your name apologetically.
“𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯,” you manage to say in response, so overcome with clashing emotions. every second of every day you had hoped, had only wished that he still thought of you, and still missed you, and here he was, saying that he did. “𝘨𝘰𝘥, 𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯, 𝘪 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”
he held you so tight in his arms that you believed that everything had stopped for you, that the universe held its breath in anticipation for the words that were to come from his mouth.
“𝘺/𝘯, 𝘪 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 —“
but then you woke up.
and none of it was real.
ethan still hated you. ethan still looked into the other girl’s eyes the way he used to look into yours. you were still absolutely heartbroken. this was truly a nightmare, except this time, it was entirely real and impossible to wake from. you wanted him to love you, you wanted him back, and you had it for just a second.
(Author’s note): Hii! This is the first fic I’ve ever written, so I would love some feedback if you have any. I hope the spacing isn’t weird, I tried to fix it.
Description: Scenes of (Y/N) and Grayson Dolan’s life together—from childhood playmates to adulthood, where they might find something more.
6 years old:
“GRAYSON BAILEY DOLAN!” you cried. Grayson, in his blue overalls and bare feet, held up the toy dump truck you had just been playing with in the sandbox. He stuck out his tongue and closed his eyes. You shrieked as you shot up out of the sandbox, chasing him around the yard until both of you were laying on your backs, trying to catch your breath and giggling.
12 years old:
“GRAYSON BAILEY DOLAN! GIVE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW!” you yelled. Grayson darted out the back door, your pink and purple diary held under his arm like a football.
“MAKE ME!” he responded.
“GRAYSON, GRAYSON, PLEASE” you pleaded. Putting the diary between his teeth, he leaped halfway up the tree in your back yard. Once high enough that he knew you couldn’t follow him, he opened the diary to the ribbon bookmark.
“Hmmm, let’s see, (Y/N)... You like Jared?? From 5th period?? GROSS!” he taunted you, reading your secret daydreams about your school crush.
Cheeks flaming red, you said, “Gray, come down from that tree or so help me.”
18 years old:
“Grayson Bailey Dolan, wait ‘til I’m ready!! One...two...three!” you ripped open your letters at the same time. You quickly skimmed yours, which read, “Congratulations, (Y/N)! You’ve been accepted...” You tried to hide your smile by biting your bottom lip as you looked up to see Gray’s reaction to his own letter.
His mouth was gaping, and his honey eyes met yours. Neither of you were able to keep a poker face, and you both burst into laughter—realizing you’d both been accepted to your dream schools. You tackled him in a hug, which lasted perhaps a second longer than you intended it to. You pulled away with some redness in your cheeks, and you both sat there, staring at each other and grinning like idiots.
“I’m really proud of you, Gray. But, you know—” you said.
He cut you off, “Hey, wait, we still have this summer, okay?” Neither of you wanted to think about the fact that you were going to schools across the country from each other.
You looked into his familiar brown eyes and said with a half-hearted smile, “Okay.”
21 years old (winter):
“Grrraysun Bailey Dooolllaaan... h-hey it’s me. miss youuuu” you sang into the phone. You hadn’t talked to your best friend in two years. You were drunk, and the hole in your heart had started aching again. His voicemail was kind enough to answer you. “d’you rember that *hiccup* that time when we, we, uhhh we made a pact that if neither of we were marrrrried by the time we’re 30? was it 31? i dunno. anyways if we didn’ get married we’d jus’ marry each other? d’you still want that? silly, we can’ keep our pact if you actually have a girlfrien’, i see all your pi—*hiccup*—tures on instagram. she’s reeeeaaally beautiful. i love you, gray.”
21 years old (summer):
“Grayson Bailey Dolan? Do my eyes deceive me?” you dramatically place the back of your hand on your forehead, pretending to faint. You hope that joking will help ease some of the tension. You haven’t spoken to each other since you left him that voicemail a couple of months ago. Well, he texted and called and left messages... but you were too embarrassed to respond to any of them. You’d heard that he had broken up with his girlfriend not too long ago, and you probably should’ve reached out to see if he was okay. But you just couldn’t bring yourself to say anything. You watch him walk towards you, entering through the gate of your backyard and sitting down next to you on your porch swing.
He flashes you a lopsided smile that instantly melts your heart and says, “Hey, (Y/N).” His deep tan makes his blinding teeth glow—even in the twilight of the day. “How have you been?”
“Oh, you know... I’ve—I’ve been pretty good.” You can feel the heat radiating off of his skin. He smells like sunscreen and cherry Chapstick, and he uses his feet to gently rock the porch swing back and forth. He watched you intently as you speak, never looking away from your eyes. “I can’t believe that school is actually over. There were a lot of days that i didn’t think i would make it and if i’m being honest i’m not exactly sure what I should do next, although I should probably have that figur—“
“Do you want to kiss me?” He looks at you so seriously. The porch swing is still and he is so close to you, your arms touching against each other. His beautiful lips are parted slightly and brows slightly furrowed, analyzing your face. Your breath catches in your throat.
“Yes,” you almost whisper.
While still wearing a serious expression, one that pierces right through you, he slowly lifts his hand and cups the side of your face. Slowly leaning in, he places the most perfect kiss you’ve ever had on your lips. It tastes like sunscreen and cherry Chapstick. He lingers for what doesn’t feel nearly long enough and pulls his mouth away slowly.
With a sparkle in his eye and an amused smile, he asks in a low voice, “Did you really like Jared from 5th period?” His hand is still cupping your face, fingertips in your hair.
Taken back by his absurd question, you let out a quick laugh. “Of course not,” you say.
“Good,” he smiles. It’s the kind of smile that you’ll be thinking about for days—little smile lines appear next to his mouth and eyes. Even though it’s now nighttime, it feels like the sun is shining. He leans in again.
27 years old:
“Grayson Bailey Dolan, I take you to be mine, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for better or for worse, til death do we part.” You look up at the love of your life—your entire life—and think that you might burst with joy and love.
“I love you, (Y/N).” He says, a smile plastered on his face.
