First, I definitely could have done a neater job. I'm not even wearing my glasses right now 🧐

Second, this would be more obvious on a shoe of a different color. The toothpick stands out but would stand out even more against, say, a black shoe.

I was just trying to think of some way to lend a little support to buckling heels.

I did a science. Try to ignore the inconsistent lighting of the before and after...

The photo on the left was the original yellowed head. His lips oxidized and his overall complexion had become more tan. I couldn’t really make it any worse. I should have taken a comparison photo of that head with another more normalized head. Hindsight.

I have three bottles of 40 vol hair developer (strong peroxide) that I bought to treat a yellowed Lady Luminous. People use it to retrobrite old electronics, so I figured why not use it on dolls heh. I coated Allan’s head in a good bloop of developer and wrapped the head in cling wrap. It’s cold and snowy here in Canada, but I put him outside anyway because youtube people said that I need UV light. After 3 hours nothing had changed so I brought him back inside.

I washed him off and started fresh. Developer, cling wrap and a resealable sandwich bag to prevent leaks. I turned on my heating pad to high, folded it in half and smooshed him in between. The photo on the right was taken 3 hours later and he lightened up considerably. Ah, the trick is heat and not UV light.

He used to be darker than his arms.

Compared to a dirty, but more consistent toned Allan.

Before and after. Soaking a glue head MH Frankie in 3% hydrogen peroxide in bright sunlight for 4 days. The yellowing is pretty much gone from the glue seepage now! The tinsel and hair texture are unchanged from what I can tell. But because this was a bait head I’m not sure if I’d dunk a favourite head just yet. The glue is still inside her head though, so it will probably turn yellow again as it seeps more. I highly doubt that the peroxide could neutralize it.

I wish that I would have tried this before I stole most of her hair for another reroot…

I have a couple of spare Midge heads that are really tan when compared to the other Midge heads that I have. I’m not sure why... maybe the way they were stored or just how they aged. I put the worst head in a jar of hydrogen peroxide and left it in the window to hopefully lighten up.

I think I’m on day three... I didn’t really pay attention to what day she went in the window. Oops. She appears to be lighter and the hydrogen peroxide has gone a little cloudy. I might pull her out of the jar and wash her off tonight once the sun sets.

So I decided to dump Goof Off into a doll head I thrifted today for science. The glue dissolved into little balls of hell. I scraped out a bunch of glue and then her hair fell out when there was nothing anchoring it in... So. I started brushing her hair for the heck of it and pop, pop, pop went each plug hair. My recommendation is not to do this?

So @harpticulation was very kind and sent me an Avery doll along with her wigs (thank you again!!).

I've seen where people have used regular human hair dye (direct dye, not chemical dye) on Rainbow High hair, so I'm debating dying the pale pink wig with my aquamarine Adore dye to see how it goes.

Since I am having trouble finding fabric dyes in the colors I want, and I have a bunch of Adore dyes it will be worth a try because if it works, I can work on some other customs I have planned. 🤗

Forgot to take a photo on the third day but not much of a difference between both iirc.

No significant change to her paint since the first soak either.

I proceeded to rub her face with my fingers and most of it, surprisingly, stayed put:

Some did come off though such as the eye brows.

Then, I washed her hair with Dawn soap. I proceeded to also lather her face gently. Paint did wash off.

Washed and lathered one more time, for two total, and...

Lot more washed away.

At this point, I was still pretty pleased with how well most of the repaint held on! Especially the pastel blushing.

I figured, that as long one doesn't constantly touch and rub the face, one could soak a repainted glue head in LA's TA and be okay.

But then, I let her dry:

So in conclusion, TA will wreck your MSC sealed repaint with water soluble media.

HOWEVER, I am tempted to try one more time without touching the face at all. Maybe not even submerging the entire head. I did that with a factory Draculaura head whose lipstick I was worried would dull. It worked, but took awhile.

The hairline may be an issue.

But there you go.
