THE BRAINWORMS YOU GAVE ME… I had been trying to figure out how to make an Iris/Dahlia roleswap interesting for a while… I finally cracked it.

“Sister Dahlia” is still cynical and calculating, as that’s just how she copes with the world around her. She is pessimistic, and even at the temple she has resentment for the Fey family and only really has love for her sister, who she was separated from. She follows Iris’s orders with dedication and precision, even being willing to disguise as her when the time comes.

“Iris Hawthorne” is still sweet and sensitive, but there is a certain coldness to her. Her personality is NOT an act… but she instead developed this twisted savior complex, where she justifies her crimes as being “for the greater good” and “to save Dahlia”. She is kind and forgiving… which makes her actions all the more sick to bear.

thinking about the awesome version of ace attorney that lives in my head where everyone is a woman and how if it was real maybe instead of actually dating dahlia just got phoenix into one of the worst toxic almost lesbian friendships known to man. and of course she still can’t be assed to keep it up the whole time (although she does it longer bc she can be a little mean), so iris still takes over.

and iris knows she’s not supposed to do anything with this girl other than blow her off, but she’s so sweet and earnest and so clearly into whatever dahlia was doing that iris just can’t resist. it only happens once and then it’s easier to avoid feenie out of shame rather than mean-spiritedness, but iris can’t stop thinking about it, and she never, never tells dahlia, which only makes her feel worse

and that would’ve been phoenix’s first clue to “dollie” being two different people. because someone as nasty as she turned out to be wouldn’t have hesitated to bring up even just one night of sex if she thought she could hurt phoenix with it, make fun of her for thinking that it meant something.
