Louisa groaned and laid her head down--perhaps a little harder than she intended to--on the library table in front of her. This was hour number 11 of sitting in this very spot, and she was sufficiently sick of it. By now, most of the words on the screen in front of her had begun to blend together, forming new sentences that were both exceptionally stupid, unhelpful and annoying, despite the trendy new blue light blocking glasses she’d purchased on Amazon a few weeks earlier. It was no secret, she was exhausted, and as her deadline approached, things were only going to get worse.
“Fuck,” she muttered aloud, not bothering to lift her face off the table. Surely muttering a few swear words would help her feel better, but in truth, what she really needed was food. Just another hour, she thought. Then I can get pizza on the way home or something. But, of course, the universe had other plans as the light suddenly changed above her.
“Hey--don’t block my ugly, fluorescent lighting, I need that.”

Jimmy: So I heard your basketball team is pretty good this year 😏
Jimmy: And also that your girlfriend is sad about it? You live a complicated life, man.
Louisa had been looking forward to visiting Dom’s apartment all week. Part of it was the sex, and part of it was the Vietnamese food he’d promised her, but mostly, she liked seeing how people ticked, and there was no better way to do that than to see where they lived.
For the last few weeks she’d been picturing his place as he’d described it--a hole in the wall, mostly empty, tucked above a Pho restaurant--but that didn’t answer the burning questions that she had about it. How clean was this place? Did he make his bed? Did he have any books around that weren’t for school? Did he own more than one set of dishes? These were all very important things that consumed her more than she would like to admit.
Casually, Lou snuggled into Dom’s shoulder on the ACE subway line, not caring if he wanted to embrace it or not. She’d had a long day, and if she was going to sleep on a mattress on the ground without a bed frame like she suspected, he owed her this.
“God, I forgot how long it takes to get out here,” she muttered, not bothering to look up at him, but instead, at the little family across from them. “It’s not that I’m against Brooklyn, but you definitely owe me 10 minutes of whatever I want in bed tonight for making the journey alone. I’ll be 70 before we reach Williamsburg, I swear.”

Louisa: I swear, I just had the worst day.
Louisa: You know when you just wake up in a bad mood and then a bunch of little minor, annoying things happen that wouldn't otherwise bother you? And then it just all piles on and you feel like the world is out to get you?
Louisa: That's how I feel right now.

Louisa: Hey, how's home?
Louisa: You'll be happy to know it's a perfect, balmy 78 degrees in New York just in time for you to leave.
Louisa: Other than that, I'm afraid my Easter has been pretty blah.
Louisa: Hope yours is better.
