❛ some say he’s AMBITIOUS, yet i say he’s foolhardy. ❜
this is mostly for @tarnishedtrust and @dominusmontis because they turned me on to this jeffersons au and I can’t stop thinking about it.
angelica, born to thomas jefferson and elizabeth schuyler, spends the first three years of her life in france. she grows up speaking english at home, mostly taught by her mother, and french everywhere else. Because she was immersed in the french culture for so long, when they get back in the states she has a rough french accent. by the time she is in her teenage years, the accent fades, but still can be heard in a few words.
in this au, angelica is much more interested in sciences and math. that’s not to say angelica isn’t interested in music– she just does not compose too often at all. she enjoys playing piano and even harp with her family and often plays for her father. however, angelica spends more time reading and advancing her knowledge in more concrete subjects than music.

❛ . . . no ? ❜
it’s nothing if not AMUSEMENT that tints that single word , cocking a brow to the other’s statement , which was seen to him as completely unfathomable . tho’ he could CLAIM no intimate knowledge of any one thing ABOUT the british major , knowing merely of him , & knowing little more PERSONALLY as he now housed at his own monticello . despite the color of his coat , & his allegiance to a country & a KING that he himself found to be detestable & hostile , andré HIMSELF seemed anything but .
amiable , cultured , & a good & honest man , he was an enemy most TOLERABLE to him , so long as topics of their loyalties — - the area in which they differed m o s t & differed STRONGLY - — went IGNORED & unspoken . as was the case at present , conversation being , dare he say , enjoyed over a glass or perhaps two of a fine madeira . even an enemy ought to be treated cordially , especially when he himself was perfectly cordial . thomas’ own glass is brought up to the level of his lips , masking the entertained grin that threatened to form on them ,
❛ you must forgive me , sir , for i find T H A T to be . . . entirely doubtful . ❜
❝ indeed. ❞
a tone no less than PLAIN is returned, legs crossed, the officer’s gaze averted ———— perhaps to dissemble his own mirth ; just as likely in order to relocate the drink he’d set down only a moment prior ———— for andré sought not variance but the avoidance of catechization, ever the lighter foot in the art of ARTLESS conversation. yet the folly would be his, surely, to deny that jefferson wasn’t possessing of a charm and charisma much alike his own, guiding him towards a conversation which held naught a trace of hostility and revelling within tones which rivalled the warmth of the madeira which washed along his throat.
❝ AH. ❞ the redcoat exhales, the glass skirting his lips before it is perched upon his knee. ❝ well, however doubtful, i would naturally encourage you to believe me, sir. ❞ mouth fidgets as he fails to subdue its jocular twist, and the major cannot help but wonder as to how far this hospitality will stretch ———— only whilst his cooperation is assured, perhaps ? ‘tis a question he is in no hurry to find the answer to. a breath, words following in a tone designed of heavy sagacity ( a tactic in colloquy he would never dare admit to ———— charm was in its very deliverance, and wisdom was a weapon the young andré had quickly learned to utilise ), ❝ after all, there is much we do not know, you and i. ❞
( weirdest thing i’ve said lately ? ‘i’ve been reading about lesbians and it made me think of thomas jefferson’s childhood’ )
