career goals: Domovoj
In Slavic folklore all homes have a Domovik / Domovoi. He is thought to be the souls of deceased family members, thusly making him a part of ancestor worship traditions. He lives at the threshold under the entrance, in the attic, in the hearth, or behind the stove. Everyone took care to not disturb the smouldering remains of a fire to keep their ancestors from falling through the grate.
If the spirit is satisfied & on good terms with the household, it acts as a guardian, helping with chores, feeding the animals & protecting the residence and those that dwell in the house. They are very protective towards the children and animals of the house and will constantly look after them.
A happy Domovoi on good terms with the household, will act as the guardian of the house. He will help with chores, feed the animals & protect the residence from robbers. In Russian folklore Veles the ruler of the underworld is the patron of these spirits. It is he who gave all domovoys the power to see the future and to cure people and animals.
To attract a Domovoy, go outside of your house wearing your best clothing. Speak the following incantation aloud: “Dedushka Dobrokhot, please come into my house and tend the flocks.” When moving to take your domovoi with you, make an offering and say “Domovoy! Domovoy! Don’t stay here but come with our family!”
Place him in your Kitchen or by your front door so he may bring peace, protection and prosperity to you and your home.
#Domovikha #Domovik Domovikha This is the name for the wives of the Slavic fairy called the Domovoi. They have the body of a woman with the beak and legs of a chicken. They will stay with one owner where the wife of the owner is good natured and do all the chores around their house of which they are paid with a saucer of milk or some bread. They live in the cellar and are quite shy. They are very friendly and helpful but if you anger them they will cause many problems such as misplacing items, making clean things dirty and playing tricks. If the children of the family misbehave she would tickle children in their sleep.
A wonderfully strange Domovoï by Ukrainian artist Alexey Monzhaley a.k.a. Monopteryx. It could be an illustration in Slavic Stories to Tell in the Dark.
"Domovoi" by Alice Duke a.k.a. Melora shows the monster’s helpful side.
Illustration by Viktor Vasnetsov. Depending on how you transliterate Cyrillic, the name of this beast is Domovoi, Domovoï, or Domovoy. The plural is Domovie, Domovïe, or Domovye.
In Slavic mythology, the Domovoï is a manlike being that haunts an old house like a ghost (but is usually thought of as a physical creature). Its appearance varies, but it is most commonly depicted as a small aged man with much hair or fur.
Domovïe may be helpful, mischievous, or dangerously malicious depending on their own disposition and the way they are treated by the human residents of their house. In this way, the Domovoï myth resembles many other Little People myths throughout the world.
Creature Profile - Domovoi (or Domovik)
A domovoi is a creature from Slavic folklore similar to a brownie. They will do all the chores in a house, as long as they are paid with either milk or bread. They can take on the shape of the master of the house, but are generally friendly and helpful. They can also be seen as good omens at times if they are seen doing specific things - such as playing music on a comb to fortell a wedding, or pulling a woman's hair to warn of an abusive man.
However, they take offence at poor housekeeping and profanities, and when upset take on qualities of a poltergeist.
If infuriated with a specific individual, they may resort to murdering them by sitting on their face while the individual sleeps.
