As fun as it still was to hang out with the gals again, I'm afraid that Hacks S5 was truly the weakest season of the whole show :(
#like S4 > S3 > S2 > S1 > S5 which is truly tragic#don't get me wrong I had this thought even before the plot of the last episode which I found very annoyingly unneccessary#me and the co-watcher were entirely baffled by the MSG climax. wdym randy doesn't monitor stubhub movement. what do you mean MSG analytics#don't monitor it#what do you mean they don't simply open the show for free at MSG that night like it's a densely populated region and doors probably opened#2 hours before deborah was set to go on stage. whipping that operation into shape would've been way more entertaining than central park#wow wait i can't believe they have me rooting for MSG over central park#hacks#ok so yes the last two episodes had those annoyances but i think the fundamental problem of s5 was that it stopped digging into#the work#for example#s4 is about their connection and betrayal and anger yes#but it's still about the question of: how do you make a good late-night show? what does it mean to do so? can you even?#in way that I a person who does not care about late night shows at all really enjoyed#s5 should've devoted more time to the content of Deborah's set and/or Ava's show#my co-watcher and I went wait...we didn't hear a single joke of Deborah's MSG set...bad...#uh. we did both entirely lose our minds at the fake dating episode though. the things kelly and monica must think#the gossip that must be flowing among the california celesbians#jaggedwolf rambles#mine#unfortunate because i thought they were sure to stick the landing here#and the delightfully goofy paris->vegas transition would've still worked! alas!
