Siegfried Farnon is based on eccentric vet Donald Sinclair, who Peter Wright worked closely with in his early career.
"You know, Donald died unexpectedly. And that morning, I remember the phone going, Jim Wight rang me to say Donald's died. Jim said, 'It's going to be a duller world without Donald Sinclair.' By gosh, it was. It has been."
For your viewing pleasure, I present a screenshot of an interview with a veterinary surgeon featuring a whopper of a story about Dr. Donald Sinclair, the inspiration behind Siegfried Farnon in the James Herriot books and "All Creatures Great and Small" TV shows.
This is from The Real James Herriot by Jim Wight, Herriot’s son.
Donald Sinclair really, really adored children, and Siegfried in the books and the series does the same. He is always incredibly kind and patient with them.

All Creatures Great & Small (2020 - )
The numerous adventures of a friendly staff at a country veterinarian practice in 1930s to 1940s Yorkshire. A remake of the 1978-1990 series. Taken from the autobiographical books by James Herriot.
This is such a feel good show set in a scenic village. If you like shows set in the 30s and 40s and quaint english villages and quirky British characters and LOVE animals then this is the show for you.
Was having a dig through some old screenshots and found this whopper of an interview quote about Donald Sinclair, also known as Siegfried Farnon, from the James Herriot novels.
