So I turned off anon because I was getting swarmed by charity scammers every day, except now, I'm getting charity scammers tagging me personally in the comments of completely random posts over and over and over. As far as I know there's no way to turn off mentions and even if there was, I wouldn't want to miss actual mentions from my moots. Fuck bots, fuck scammers, and fuck whatever meta is going right now with the donation links. Let me make one thing perfectly clear:

I do not donate to random ass strangers who tag me. I only give to vetted organizations I trust.

You bottom-feeding fake-ass "Palestine/donation" scammers should realize that having the EXACT same template sent out by multiple accounts makes the appeal far less convincing.

And it was already an obvious scam...

update on scammer behavior:

scammers (in particular, ivysour) is now trying to hide from people who call out scammers by only making their blog viewable for people who have a tumblr, thus if people who call them out are logged in can’t view their blog. SO, if a blog:

is only viewable from mobile & you have to be logged in to view it

has only existed for a few days (or alternatively, it appears that they’ve been around for a few months, check the date of the op on some of their posts, they’ve been using a tumblr feature to make it look like their blog has existed for longer by changing the date of their reblogs, but the originals can’t be edited, so it will say their reblog has existed for longer than the actual, original post has been made)

seemingly encourages people to “Ask questions” if they want “proof”, but has anon turned off, messages turned off, and submit turned off

their donation post has replies turned off and/or they’ve hidden reblogs (& you can see this by seeing if people have reblogged from a particular user, but the user’s on reblog is missing from the notes, this is likely that someone has called them out for scamming already)

the user is Filipino & has their paypal set to Phillipine Pesos

OR: look up the donation posts’ wording and/or photos, they’ve been hijacking people’s real fundraisers, including from actual users here on tumblr (check the notes)

their ask message is identitcal to other blogs apparently asking for help

the paypal name is Dave Torres, Neil Taladico (which is the real name of a man Ivysour has stolen from in order to scam, but has since passed away irl so this could not be him), or any version of the name Reuben/Reumel/Sitchon/Sherwun

Then it’s very likely a scam

I’d doubt any fundraisers this user (formerly known as the-jointpasser) is apparently making for someone or themselves, considering they were already called out, with proof, of being a scammer. Long story short, they were caught stealing someone else’s identity and situation for scamming and then deleted everything and changed their url to try hide and pretend like nothing happened.

Everyone, please REPORT and then block this scammer. Their blog is less than a day old and its identical to the last Insulin Scammer who spammed my inbox.

They actually sent me this identical message twice in a row, lmao.

how dire  and life threatening me😭 but this is my short story. Why I came tumblr to ask for help.

I am a young indigenous latin mother. It is very sad to have to ask for help in this way, but my salary is not enough. I owe 2 months rent and food is running out. After months of suffering because of renal cancer my husband passed away. after a long battle from radiotheraphy he left us alone i have 1 little son left on me. please help me raise$1500, I don't really have enough fund right now to cover my rent and food.

Groovyblizzardtiger for your free 99% probably a donation scammer block list. Just sent me an ask completely out of the blue 2 seconds after following me with never interacting with any of my other posts, and that's fucking scammer behavior and I'm not even going to bother to check the rest of it because that's what scammers do. goodbye.

Remember that if a random stranger do you have literally never interacted with before and who has never interacted with any of your posts sends you an ask asking for donations, 99.99 times out of 100 that is a scam account and it's going to get deleted and remade probably within a few days or even a few hours as soon as they get caught.

These people will change their stories every now and then once people start catching on to what they're doing, but they are almost always stealing other people's photos and medical information, commonly they will post extremely graphic images of injuries or gore to shock you into donating. Block and report them as spam. I don't think Tumblr has a report function specifically for scammers.

Recent scammers have learned that they cannot literally just have a blog with two donation posts on it so they've started going through fandom tags and re-blogging a random surge of fandom content, but if you investigate the blog you almost always see that the blog is brand spanking new, and is not nearly as full as it seems at first glance.
