Silver eyes watch the flame, "I love the smell of gasoline. . . light the match to taste the heat." This fixation that will surely bite him sometime. . .

Why Fazbear Entertainment had chosen to hire additional staff was a mystery to him, given their track record of cheapness, but he certainly wasn't complaining. It seemed they were still too lazy to get the office a second chair, though... "There's, uh, some things I better...brief you on before our shift starts."

At first, the female guard was sat on the office chair, fidgeting with the monitor in her hands; it seemed she was trying to get a feel of the security system beforehand, which could be considered smart thinking.

For some reason though, it looked as if she was having some trouble keeping the monitor in both of her hands.

She looked up upon hearing her newly-assigned co-worker's voice on the doorway, her unusually long bangs covering basically the entire right of her face, while the left was visible because she had her hair tied in a left side-bun. Her visible eye evidently wandered slightly until it landed on the other's crutch, and as response she immediately stood up, giving up the chair.

" Oh! It must be so! " She almost beams in response, carefully setting the tablet down on the desk. " I was told I'd have a fellow co-worker too! So I got myself coffee on the way here, and would've gotten one for you too, but sadly I had to let it pass since I had no idea how you'd like yours. " She explains with a sheepishness; Maybe next time? Her own coffee was noticeable on the desk, an XL Starbucks cup with "BANSHEE" written in marker on it. Those silly, silly baristas!

The lady can't lie, the other guard seemed... a little younger than whatever she'd expected. Or maybe that's just because he's exactly as short as she is. Poor guy.

But nevertheless, he has her attention; if he's been in this job position unlike her who's starting fresh and innocent, it's a given he has important information.

" Is it about the mascots moving? Someone briefly told me they lack a 'night mode' so they try seeking the night workers out thinking they're audience, but to not let them into the office to avoid equipment damage. "

"Oh no - I'm so sorry!" Standing positively horrified at the woman he just effectively dumped a cup of coffee on, Mike silently curses himself. He's been awake for far too long - the guard hadn't even seen someone in front of him, vision blurred and head spinning. That was definitely going to stain her shirt, at the least...

"Oh, God, you're not burned, right? I-I don't think it was that hot, but..." Burying his face in his hands, he groans in embarrassment. Kill him now... "Again, I'm so sorry, miss."

It's a bit of a misery, she was just wandering the halls, maybe she was gonna see if she can't chat with someone or go play a game or two to kill sometime but instead she was spilled coffee on - she wasn't looking where she was going, simple as. Bad habit of sometimes just watching her own shoes.

She leapt back and tugged at her shirt, oh god it's very unlucky that she was wearing her white shirt. She searches and finally his voice tuned in. "Oh my gosh - hey! no it's " well it isn't *okay* but. "It's alright, accidents happen! I didn't see you so - it's gonna be okay. No i'm not burnt." it was warm but nothing dangerous, thankfully.

Charlie tugs her green jacket off and places it aside. "Can I ask for napkins?"

for starters, being able to calm michael down isn't something that ANYONE can achieve— michael is closed off with most people around him. since his immediate reaction to many becomes keeping them at arm's length, pushing them away, doing whatever he can to avoid allowing himself to have attachments... he really isn't going to let someone he hasn't at least broken down some of those walls with even try. he'll simply isolate himself or shut down too quickly for that to be an option. when someone's in a position where michael will allow them to calm him down, he's in that state in the first place because either michael cannot control his panic or there is enough subconscious trust for him to allow himself to show it.

michael is also the kind of person whose method of calming down has always been riding it out— he never learned how to help himself manage or recover, faced with no options other than feeling that panic overtake him until it stops. he is not used to receiving comfort in these situations, so he doesn’t know what would work best. something he very much needs is to be guided out of his own head. michael will become so swept up in his own guilt, fear, and memories that being reminded of where he is, who he is with, and especially emphasizing that he is somewhere safe will start to get through to him. he needs to know that he is both not in a position to get hurt AND the other person trusts him not to hurt them. to receive comfort is to be treated as more than a violent thing, witnessing someone see and love him as human rather than the twisted view michael has of himself will make him more willing to stop pulling himself away and calm down with them. 

physical contact CAN help a lot, but again it’s very particular. michael finds it grounding, a tangible reminder of where he is and who he is with, finding reassurance in the fact that someone is willing to touch and hold him with care instead of contempt. he won’t allow it from just anyone, though— if someone he isn’t close to tries to physically comfort him michael will jerk away immediately, averse to the contact he isn’t used to. asking is always a safer bet, but he might be inclined to deny even people who he DOES want physical comfort from because of how difficult it is for him to accept. It’s complicated, but in general if michael has reached that point where he is accepting an important connection with someone rather than pulling away, physical comfort DOES mean a lot to him.

overall, michael’s instinct is to pull away and claim he would rather be left alone, and while that is best in situations where people he doesn’t yet trust enough will just make things worse, finally allowing himself to receive help is really important. 

also, someone teach him a fucking breathing exercise or get him a stress ball god damn-

76. My Boy Builds Coffins — florence + the machine

michael has a VERY heavy motif of death for a lot of very obvious reasons. he lost his siblings, was around for all of those victims and accidents, died himself and still could not move on. ( it's something i've tried to emphasize even in the making of his blog, his original url before tumblr nerfed me was deadkeeper, referencing the quote "aren't we indeed the keepers of our dead?" ) which is ENTIRELY what this song is about. the lyrics make a point of unavoidable death no matter who you are and where you come from, and the burden placed on those who understand this.

i do see michael as a symbol of this existence between two worlds. following the events of sister location, he HAS been dead both physically and emotionally... for a very, very long time. he's not part of the living, but he is not allowed to move on either. he exists in a grey area and there he does what he CAN to free the lost souls and hopefully bring them to an afterlife where they can rest.

michael HAS made his fair share of mistakes and often blames himself for the tragedies, but where william is the slaughter he is the space between death and moving on, not killing but slowly BUILDING the foundation with which the ghosts of his siblings and his father's victims are finally, again, able to rest.

There’s a gurgle or wheeze sort of noise from the chicken staring at him from the window. She’d have to leave, like always, but she’ll be back. They’ll al keep coming back till they get in eventually.
