[5:14 PM] “Are you still playing that video game?” You asked as you walked in the apartment front door.
Dongju frowned, not taking his eyes from the screen. “I’ve been stuck on this level for, like, two hours now. I’m going to finish it if it kills me.”
You snorted, kicking off your shoes and grabbing a bottle of tea from the fridge before wandering into the living room. You knew Dongju had a thing about completing things and finding good stopping points; you should have known your roommate would spend his day off like this if he got sucked into a video game.
“Scootch,” you said, nudging Dongju’s shoulder.
Instead of moving to not take up most of the loveseat, Dongju slid down and sat on the floor in front of it, instead. You laughed and stepped over him, settling directly behind him to watch.
“So what’s been tripping you up?” you asked, opening the tea and glancing at the fun fact in the bottle cap. “Also, apparently honey is one of the only foods that never goes bad, did you know?”
“I had no idea,” Dongju mumbled, button-mashing furiously. “It’s always this–one–boss–GAH.”
He dropped the controller and ran his fingers through his hair as his character died again.
You took a swig of tea and set it on the side table. “Pick up the controller, I can help.”
Dongju sighed, obeying reluctantly. You looped your arms over his shoulders and put your hands over his on the controller, nudging his fingers to hit the buttons you wanted.
“Hm.” You mused, setting your head on top of his. “You’re the perfect height for me to rest my chin on your head.”
“Just help me with this boss and I swear I’ll buy us as much takeout as you want tonight,” Dongju muttered, following your lead on the controller.
You grinned. “Ooh, can it be poké? I’ve really been feeling poké lately.”
“It can be whatever you want!” Dongju pleaded, and you got to business helping him dodge enemy attacks.
“You have to dodge and roll here, see?” You said as you guided Dongju’s character to do just that. “Because it always does a second attack just here, even if it’s not looped in with the first one.”
You dropped his hands and leaned back, victorious, as the level completed.
Dongju looked back at you, impressed. “How…?”
“I watch those ‘how to pass this level’ videos you refuse to watch,” you teased.
Dongju pouted. “Then this doesn’t count! I cheated!”
“It was cheating the second I helped you, and you didn’t have issues with that,” you laughed, ruffling his hair. “So. Poké?”

This was a mistake.
You knew that you should have kept your feelings close, knew that Dongju wouldn’t like you in that way but you still told him anyway. Yet, you never expected for him to start laughing right after your confession. It hurt a lot more than you would like to admit, but you tried your best to steel your facial expression as you waited for Dongju to finish. It would only be worse if you started crying right now.
As his laughter subsided, he was left with the brightest of smiles you had ever seen grace his face. If only it wasn’t because he was laughing at you, if only it were just out of happiness and not at your expense. You couldn’t meet his beautiful caramel gaze any longer, the anxiety creeping through your system like a plague. You could feel your hands trembling lightly, so you gripped them together in front of you for some semblance of comfort without showing how upset you were.
“Alright, alright you got your laugh. I get it, it’s hilarious that I’m crushing on you.” You muttered, trying to play along like you weren’t hurt. It would be better that way, less awkward if you wanted to try and salvage some semblance of your former relationship. Swallowing your pride, and what little dignity you had left, you continued, “We can, totally just forget this happened and just never talk about it again. I promise I won’t make things weird.”
“Nope.” Dongju didn’t even let you finish your thought before denying your words. Your heart sunk, you hadn’t thought that it would be like this but you were truly regretting listening to Gunhak.
“Seriously, Dongju it’s fine. I really don’t want these feelings to get between our friendship.” If it was possible for your heart to break more, then it would have shattered further as he shook his head.
“Too late, friendship officially ruined.” He still held that sickeningly sweet smile on his face as he took a step towards you. It took everything you had to not back away from him, or hell, run away just out of embarrassment and pain. “Relationship started, well if you want me to be your boyfriend.”
You were floored by his words, did he seriously just pull that shit? For a moment you started questioning, why exactly you liked him, but that was a dumb question because you knew exactly why. You had fallen for that mischievous twinkle in his eye when he decides to mess with his Hyungs, the way he loved teasing those closest to him, the way people thought he was intimidating when really he was one of the sweetest people you had ever met. Well...when he wasn’t pulling shit like this.
He couldn’t stop smiling as he waited for your response, reaching out and taking your hands into his own and swinging them lightly.
“Were you worried I didn’t like you cause you’re older than me?” He questioned, tilting his head slightly as that familiar twinkle found its way into his eyes. “I mean, I can still love you even if you’re a dinosaur.”
You scoffed, pulling one of your hands from his grasp so that you could lightly slap his shoulder. Which once again prompted a laugh from the male, who then proceeded to lean forward and press his forehead into your shoulder. “You’re my favorite dinosaur. My ancient baby.”
“Dongju, I’m only a few years older than you.” He ignored your argument in favor of continuing to list off things that were old, as if they were going to be his new pet names for you.
“My Pangea. I like that one, I might have to keep it.” He leaned back just enough so that he could flash a playful grin in your direction. “Kiss me once if you like the name, and kiss me twice if you hate it. “
“Or maybe I don’t kiss you at all, just to be mean back?”
“Noooooo.” He quickly let your hands go so that he could snake his arms around your waist as he whined loudly in your ear. Typical Dongju attitude when things don’t go his way, letting his body weight drop onto your frame which forced you to quickly wrap your arms around him so that neither of you fell. “Pleaseeee, my beautiful Pangea, please give me kisses? I deserve them.”
“What will I get in return?”
“You...get to kiss me?”
“Dongju!!”
His lower lip jutted out in the most pitiful pout and you were almost certain he learned that from Dongmyeong. Despite knowing what he was doing you couldn’t stop yourself from adhering to his request.
It was a bit awkward with how he was standing, almost curled around you, but you did it. Gently cupping his cheek, you pulled his face closer to yours and pressed your lips ever so slightly against his. Almost as if he were a fire and you were scared to get too close, just incase this was just a big joke to him. Despite your fear, as soon as your lips met his kissed back with much more force than you were expecting. Turning your feather light kiss into one filled with a passion you weren’t aware lived inside of Dongju. His teeth gently nipped at your bottom lip, and you vaguely wondered how much more you would get bitten by the man now that you were a couple (?).
After a heat filled moment, he pulled away with a smug grin on his face as if he had just cheated some kind of prize out of you. Your breathing was much heavier than before and you found yourself almost embarrassed as he stared at you.
“Looks like Pangea’s you’re new nickname.”
Without hesitation, you grabbed his cheeks between your hands and firmly kissed him once more.
You lean against the wall waiting for him to respond. Dongju lets out a small laugh through the phone.
“Hello to you too,” he teases, “yeah, where are you?” He asks letting out a sigh.
“In the hall,” you respond with a laugh of your own.
You look towards the door still holding the large cut in the side of your shirt closed. Dongju opens the door turning towards the side smiling when he sees you.
“Dongmyeong told me he wasn’t home when I called,” you say.
You push yourself off of the wall putting your phone down by your side. Dongju shakes his head letting out a soft sigh stepping to the side so you can enter the room.
“You’re calling Dongmyeong first, are you sure I’m your best friend?” He asks, “who do you like better me or Dongmyeong?”
“You of course,” you say quickly.
“Would you say the same thing to Dongmyeong?” He inquires.
He follows behind you until he reaches his room door opening it and stepping inside. He picks up hoodie handing it to you, you thank him, slipping it on over your ripped shirt.
“I probably would,” you admit with a laugh, “Dongmyeong’s never asked though,” you remind, “and he probably wouldn’t.”
“How’d you cut your shirt,” he inquires.
“Are you going to keep questioning me?” You say with a sigh.
You shrug unsure of how the shirt got ripped, but you figure it got caught on an edge at work.
“Thank you, I’ll bring it back tomorrow, I just didn’t want to walk home with my shirt ripped like that,” you explain.
He hums sitting on the edge of his bed. You wave to him before leaving the room and heading back towards the front to leave.
