Ok, but seriously though.
Madagascar series: Hilarious, fast-paced animation, lots of room and places to explore. Is it for everyone? Not really, but it's still entertaining. Good friendships between the characters.
Kung Fu Panda: Literally fucking perfect. Beautiful animation, music, & plot. Wonderful characters who actually do GROW and change from the first movie to the next. The sequel is even better than the first! Lot's of character motivation, growth, land, and back-story to explore.
HTTYD: BEAUTIFUL animation, great music, well thought out story. Characters actually AGE from one movie to the next. Adults/parents as PEOPLE with actual emotions and thought out motivations. Wonderfully done relationships between couples and friends. Handicapped protag who kicks ass! Based on a book series with more plot left to explore.
The Croods: UNGODLY BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION????? Some kinks in the story, but the characters are believable and easy to relate to or understand. Lots of story and land to explore.
I have nothing to say on Shrek as I've never really liked it, but the second is ok, and it is a comedy so... yeah.
But like all of those are pretty great series that get even better as the go on??? Dreamworks tend to put out really great sequels, if you ignore the Shrek ones. Plus the style differs for each movie, which really can't be said for Disney. Does Dreamworks have some problems? Oh yes, it does. Won't deny that. But the stories they put out aren't cookie-cutters, and they suffer A LOT from that. I'm will to bet if HTTYD had the Disney name slapped on it, it'd be even more popular. Name brands do things to our minds.
Now I love Disney animation and their style. They pulled it off wonderfully in BH6, everything looked so good and pleasing to the eye. Everyone had these nice, soft features, they looks kind but expressive. Frozen had a lot of that too, but BH6 pulled it off better. The issue is that if they're gunna take the title of THE go-to animation studio, they need to back it up with variety and attempts at new things. They need to try putting more details into their animation like HTTYD or ROTG(though I think ROTG was actually too detailed, things kinda looked creepy, but still). They gotta break their mold more often and live up to their title.
And really, I'm sorry. Frozen does not have enough to explore that Disney would be willing to touch on. Not enough to warrant a sequel before WiR of BH6. I can't touch on the racism issues of Frozen because I don't have enough understanding of that, but Frozen is ok at best. It has some strong moments, the animation can be hella beautiful at times, the music is great, but it did not bring anything much new to the plate. It's cute, but I did not attach to the characters. Even Anna's 'death' didn't have that much impact. It's just... it's not a movie that should be getting a sequel right now.
The issue isn't 'EWWWW SEQUEL' it's 'Why the fuck is Frozen getting a sequel?????' so you can't compare that to the Dreamworks stuff(except Shrek, which people HAVE called out and gotten crabby about, and also like kinda suck so????)
You shouldn't diss someone's favourite band or artist because they have a reason for that band/artist for being their favourite and by you telling them their favourite sucks and putting them down for listening to them is a very shitty thing to do and you should be ashamed of yourself.
