Proper Fast Food Customer Etiquette
If you care, that is.
I work in fast food on all positions and I have a few basic things that I feel would be at least a little obvious, alas it is not the case. Anyway. Just a few pointers for fast food customer etiquette.
Dining room
-Place your trays in the designated area (usually on top of trash cans) do not leave them on your table for us to clean up
-When getting rid of trays, please take any paper protectors off and throw them away. We take them back to the sink in stacks and sometimes we will miss the paper which in turn can ruin our sink motor (the thing that makes the dishes clean)
-If you or your kids leave a huge mess, please clean up best to your ability.
-If you need a table wiped off, let us know when we aren’t busy with other customers. Let us know, do not demand. Ex: “Hey sorry to bug you could we get our table cleaned real fast?” Not “Why isn’t this table clean you guys get paid too much”
- If you move chairs or tables, that’s fine. But please move them back when you are done. Please.
Drive thru
-Please don’t come through ten minutes before we close and order big things. We don’t mind ice cream or a small order (one meal) but if you have seven people in the car, don’t come through.
-We do have a time that we need to meet in drive, which means it really knocks us down if you take a while to decide or have a large order. Please know what you want before you come up to the speaker.
Pro tip!!!: Our timer doesn’t start until you’re up by the speaker. Even stopping before hitting the speaker so you can decide really helps us out.
-Please don’t come through with separate orders. If you have more than one person who needs to order and you’re paying separately, come inside. It will be much faster for you and it will help us out.
-If we have a special and you want to order a huge majority of one thing, please come inside. I’m sick of people coming through drive wanting 20 shakes.
-Please do not order for your entire family in drive.
Pro tip!!!: If it’s over $15 please come inside and order it. We have a lot of orders totaling up to $50+ in drive and it takes us much longer to get all of that out to you than it would if you came in.
Anyway. Thank you for reading if you made it this far- be kind to our fast paced workers who deal with grease burns and endless dishes.
Last pro tip!!! Be nice. Be friendly. Ask how we are and be a human being with feelings. Most of us are kids- teenagers. We are someone’s babies. Treat us with kindness.
