salam. so here's the tea on East Plano Islamic Center, i.e. EPIC (no, not the EHR company.) today, they are holding a day-long conference about how to "engage" with modern-day LGBTQ+ community members. speakers include Omar Suleiman, Yasir Qadhi, Mobeen Vaid, Waheed Jensen, and Dr. Asma Tasneem Uddin. most of EPIC's lectures are live-streamed. this one is not - and we all know why. they know they're going to say things that are BS, not center or include the opinions of most actual LGBT+ Muslim folks, and parrot Islamified versions of conservative Christian right-wing versions of religion. (y'all better take a HARD look in the mirror when you quote hadith like "you will follow the ways of the Jews and Christians, even into the hole of a lizard.") we at Advocates for Youth's Muslim Youth Leadership Council abhor this behavior as un-islamic, twisting the words of Allah and our tradition, and at its core and regressive, and present some resources in response. 1.
