Hey. Heyhey. Do me a favor real quick.
If you don't already know you have issues doing so, squat down real quick. Bend your knees all the way and touch the floor. Just make sure you can do it. Okay? For me? And then stand up all the way and make sure you can balance on one foot.
Like. You don't need to blow it into some huge thing. Just. Make sure all your bits and peices still work the way you think they do.
Can you turn your head to look behind you without twisting your shoulders? What about standing on your toes? If you sit down on the floor can you get back up without using your hands?
If there was ever a tumblr post worth sending to your mom, it's this one.
Just saying, bodies are a use it or lose it kinda thing.
okay so every time I see this post crop back up in queues and notifications I end up thinking about it. Because I made the post and even I'm still doing the thing where I read the post about maintaining range of motion in my delicate meatsuit and I nod and hmm and think yeah that's a good idea and then dont move from where I'm curled up shrimp style staring at the nightmare rectangle.
So like. Thinking real hard about moving doesn't count as moving. Major bummer. Anyways. Joints.
When people think about this kind of body maintenance, they generally default to 'what if you fall over and can't get back up', which is very valid and important, but also. What if there was a cool bug? A pretty flower you would like to bend over and sniff? A puppy or a kitten at ankle height that needs petting and scritches and cuddles? A toddler who wants to tell you something? What if you want to follow the flight of a bird or a ball or a Frisbee or a plane or a butterfly and you need your neck to twist quickly enough to see it?
You deserve to be able to do all these things without pain or stiffness or lingering consequences. Doing a little bit goes a long way for ensuring that you body maintains the ability to carry you through the world and all it has to offer.
Also, if you are not in the habit of regular strenuous aerobic workouts, and you have had covid recently ever, it's a good idea to check your lung function. Because it's a real nasty surprise to find out that the upper bounds of what your lungs can do has dropped significantly.
Take the deepest breath you can and feel out your limits. It is more than likely not what you expect.
It is possible to get it back and rebuild your capacity, but this is one of those things that unless you had a reason to notice will sit quietly in the background until you get suckerpunched at a bad moment.
Tim Stoker with hanahaki disease.
He's had it for as long as he can remember. As a kid it was pretty harmless; his crushes weren't ever serious enough to be worrisome. His mom had hanahaki, and it was pretty likely that Danny did too, although Tim was never sure if Danny even got crushes like he did. Now, as an adult, Tim knows what he's doing. When he meets someone new, he tries to get it over with quick - banter and flirt, make them laugh and ask about their hobbies. There's always a quick build of tension and anxiety, wondering if it's going to happen this time.
Nine times out of ten, it does. His new friend will smile and tilt their head just so, or they'll make a clever joke, or they'll gush about something they enjoy, and Tim will feel the sudden prick of pain in his chest. Sometimes it's light, more like an itch than anything. Other times it's sharp and powerful, taking his breath away for a moment. He's learned to laugh it off and call it a "hereditary thing, nothing to worry about" if anyone notices.
See, Tim is the type of guy who falls a little bit in love with a lot of people. All of his friends, really, and a lot of strangers too. Usually, it lasts a few minutes. Sometimes a few days, or even weeks. Sometimes the feelings go away and then resurface at inopportune moments later on. Tim is a lover. He always has been.
So when Sasha James laughs at a Gravity Falls reference he just made and he feels a prickle in his lungs, he doesn't think twice about it. He just tosses her a wink and keeps talking. He assumes that the rush of giddiness he feels ar her approval will fade over the next few weeks of working together.
It doesn't. For the first time in several years, Tim finds himself losing sleep over the itching and aching behind his ribs. Well, fine. Maybe it's time he takes his shot.
It goes well, until it doesn't. That is, they go out on a date, they hook up, and they immediately stumble into an awkward failure of communication for the next week and a half. Tim wakes up one morning in a violent coughing fit. Sasha texts him an hour later to let him know she'd like to stay friends.
By the time they're both transferred to the Archives, Tim's eating habits are beginning to change. He sticks to savory foods now - things that pair well with the ever-present taste of rosemary in the back of his throat.
When the Prentiss attack occurs, Tim is already struggling to breathe deeply enough to run. His lungs feel like they're full of glass, though in reality they're full of tight, clinging root systems and leaves that tickle the inside of his esophagus. At least the dizziness from CO2 fumes eases the pain a little, so he doesn't have too tough of a time talking to Jon and Martin when he finds them.
Then they hear the scream.
Suddenly Tim's knees hit the ground, and he's in the most excruciating pain he's ever experienced. He doubles over as the roots in his lungs rip themselves free. Mangled and blood-covered rosemary plants spatter across the stone floor in front of him as his vision blurs. This is it, Tim thinks vaguely, I'm dying.
Later, in the hospital, doctors will examine Tim's injured lungs and tell him that they've never seen a case like his. Usually, hanahaki flowers only uproot themselves like that if the object of the patient's affection dies. Yet, here is Sasha visiting him, alive and well.
She smiles amusedly to herself as she leaves a bouquet of monkshood on his bedside table.
this is the second case ive seen of a black child going missing and then found lynched, what the fuck is going on

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

Movement nudge, getting up off the floor!
X
real talk, i saw this other vid 7 years ago where a trainer like this lady gave some of the most important physical health advice I ever heard that changed my life:
#1. You should be able to lay down on the floor (face down or back) and be able to get up without your hands. If you can't? Spend a little bit every day just doing that, laying on the floor and getting up again no hands style, then laying down again (you'd be surprised how fast it wears you out after a few times)
#2. You should be able to get up out of a chair without using your hands or grabbing on to anything. Can't? Fucking start training mother fucker! Just a few uppies every day could save your damn life when you get older!
#3. You should be able to turn your neck to the side without twisting your upper body in the same direction, you should be able to turn your head freely without moving your shoulders, chest or torso! Start looking up loosy goosy neck exercises! It makes such a HUGE difference!
#4. You should be able to motherfucking stand on one foot and keep your balance for longer then 15 seconds. Haha sounds easy right? Thats what I thought when I tried after watching that vid, i was horrified to find how hard it was! I started doing "one leggy style" standing any chance I got, when I'm in line somewhere, when I'm watching a video... just do a few rounds of 10 seconds on each leg for like 5 min every day!
You get older and you think you still have all the same limberness as you did when you were 8, but whens the last fucking time you ran around and played like an 8 year old? You loose that flexibility so subtlety and then one day when you need it? BAM ITS GONE
Start getting into these habits now, i don't care if you're 18/25/30/45/50 OR WHATEVER JUST START YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

fucked that you can’t fix other people especially when you really care about them. Oh so im just supposed to be there for you while you suffer. like a useless cunt gargoyle
My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.
"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone
"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
I don’t have any disorders these are all symptoms of being a vampire
