She still hasn't quite recovered from the shock yet.
Detective Percival King, one of the highest-ranking officers in the SJPD, had gone off and gotten herself soulbonded to ZORA SALAZAR, one of the three leading officers of the terrorist group BLISS OCEAN...
And now she was on her merry way to solve a small series of supposed monster sightings in Redwood Run.
She should’ve been fired. Getting taken off the Arsene Amulet case (“for now—” Eros’ words still rang in her head with all of his unsettling cheer—) didn’t even feel like a demotion. It felt like pity.
The car drives quietly along the peaceful reds and oranges of the trees, sunlight filtering through them all in a way she’s all too aware of. The sergeant had pressed for her to go with Meryl, actually, but she held her ground that the precinct didn’t need to waste the resources. (Her argument was legitimate— she’d swear up and down she wasn’t trying to avoid her, although she had yet to face her as an adult about the whole soulbonding thing.)
It's only a couple of town myths, after all.
The police car slides to a neat stop at the edge of the rickety, run-down area. No Arsene Amulet this time— just a bunch of small-time thieves and a few scared citizens, according to the reports.
What could possibly go wrong?
