PRAISE THE HOLY DONUTS
Lakeside Diner donuts in Stamford, CT
This past summer, before we even realized Donut Demolishers was our future, we ventured to DK Donuts in Santa Monica, California. We were spending the summer with family that lived about an hour out of L.A, so usually it would be a quick and easy drive up! However, Tilly is the absolute worst person with directions and it took us THREE HOURS TO DRIVE TO L.A!!! By the time we got to the donut shop we were so hungry and weak that it is still agreed to this day that these are the best donuts we have ever tasted. These were no ordinary donuts, however! These were a hybrid between a croissant and a donut (a.k.a “cronut”) Tilly got a maple bacon cronut, and I got a nutella cronut! Words cannot express how good these donuts/cronuts are, so please see Tilly’s pictured face above that truly says all that I cannot.
VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland, Oregon is AMAZING AND AWESOME AND EVERYTHING A LITLE KID COULD EVER DREAM OF! Their donuts are all about looking cool/a little messy and they taste delicious too! Their shop is fun and colorful just like their donuts and we highly recommend going if you’re ever in Portland. Featured above is a picture I took of a little freckled ginger boy (with permission from his parents) who was eating a donut LITERALLY the same size as his face. I think it perfectly captures the joy and perfection that a donut can bring to ones life.
HOLEY MOLEY, HOLEY COW, HOLEY CREAM!!!!!!!!!!! We were just staring for at least 10 minutes trying to gather our feelings when we walked into this place. Now, there are many options on their menu for you to choose from, but we knew what we were getting. The donut sandwich. There are easy step by step instructions painted on the wall when you walk in, but let me tell you it is not easy. You get your plain donut, but then need to choose between at least 20 ice cream flavors, three icing flavors, and 10 toppings. Tilly got 3 scoops of coffee mud pie ice cream and chocolate frosting. I got 3 scoops of moose track ice cream, chocolate frosting, oreos, chocolate sprinkles, and peanut butter drizzle. No regrets. And I also ate the entire thing (please see before and after picture above). In order to prepare to come to this shop, one must not eat anything at all before you try it. Or else you’re at a high risk of barfing up your self-made edible masterpiece. Sadly, we have no vomit stories to share with you all, but it seemed like a definite possibility to us after we finished eating. Our review is that one has not truly experienced all the secrets of the world or donut culture if you have not ventured to Holey Cream and eaten a donut sandwich for yourself.
On June 5th it was NATIONAL DONUT DAY!!!! THE DAY THE DONUT DEMOLISHERS LIIIIIVE FOR, OBVIOUSLY!!!! At this point, the Donut Demolishers have developed a very hardcore fan base and we didn’t want to let them down. So what did we do to celebrate?!? MADE OUR VERY OWN DONUTS FROM SCRATCH BY HAND! (and also posted 25 photos on our instagram account @donut_demolishers) It took us all day, but the end product was not only aesthetically pleasing but also edible!!! We had never felt more accomplished in our entire lives.
This is the website/recipe we used to make these in case you ever want to try to make your own, and we highly recommend it!

DOUGH IS THE PLACE TO GO! This was our favorite place. Everyone that works there is so nice, and the donuts are so big and so delicious. They’re fresh, and fluffy, and dough-tastic! Oh boy do we want to go back there right now as we’re writing this post. To make sure we maintained our lady like figures, we settles on four donuts to try. We got Cheesecake, Passion Fruit, Lemon Meringue, and Hibiscus. Let us start with Cheesecake. The dough was delicious (maybe that’s why the store is named Dough...) the cheesecake frosting was really cheesecakey but not too strong! The Passion Fruit was WEIRD!!!!!! Our pallets were not ready for this gourmet/creative option. It was sour, tilly’s eye started twitching uncontrollably, we started questioning what a passion fruit even was, so we looked it up...it looks like a turd. You could still taste it after you ate it and it was not good. So if you ever decide to go to Dough, just be ready for this silent zinger. The Hibiscus was really light, the frosting was beautiful, and also is it a flower? We don’t know, but it tasted pretty good! And lastly, the lemon meringue was so good that I didn’t even take any notes about it. Just stick that sucker in yo mouth and enjoy all it has to offer. Overall, we give this store 5 stars! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟!!!!!!!!!!
The Donut Demolishers decided to take to New York to try and find some gem spots of the city. However, it did not get off to a perfect start. The first place we tried to go to, Holey Donuts, was closed!!! They’re just moving locations, but beware it does NOT inform you of this on the internet!!!! We then mustered up enough energy (it was scorching hot out) to trek to The Donut Pub. Let me tell you, it was well worth it! It’s a quaint little diner, not too packed, that has a display of an array of donuts every morning. It was hard to pick just a couple flavors to try because they had so many that sounded absolutely amazing. But, we knew we had to pace ourselves so we settled on a Red Velvet, Glazed, and Marble Cruller. The Red Velvet was SO GOOD AND SO YUMMY!! It was crunchy on the outside with a soft inside and the flavor was utter perfection. The glazed was soft and had nice tasting frosting. And we only have one word for the Marble Cruller: YUM! We don’t doubt that all their other flavors would have the same awesome reviews. If you get a chance, stop by this poppin’ little shop because we give it 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!!!
