now i just want to hear you talk about tea
i could talk forever about tea!! all my local tea shops know me by name LOL
straight up zuko in @boomerang-guy is simply my mouth piece for educating everyone on burned green tea. i used to hate green tea until i learned how to brew it gong fu style in a gaiwan.
so... tips for the best green tea experience
try to find a full, loose leaf green tea (tea bags tend to be a to of smashed pieces, and often are the pieces that fall out of machine during processing. being smaller they steep faster and become bitter quicker) if tea bags are what’s available, that’s fine!
use fresh water. water actually really affects how the tea will taste!
make sure your water is under 190F. Japanese greens should be steeped around 175F, Chinese greens can be steeped at higher temperatures (but I don’t go over 190)
preferably, steeps should be small and quick. Like, 1 tbsp of tea leaf, 300 ml of water, roughly 10 seconds and then emptied into a pitcher (i have a small glass pitcher for this). Repeat (add a few seconds each time) until the tea stops having flavor. Japanese teas can probably be steeped 2-3 times, Chinese teas, depending on the quality, can be steeped 5-20 times
Re-steeping is possible with tea bags. Make sure the water is the right temperature and start with about 30 seconds of steeping and see how that tastes. At coffee shops if I order a cup of tea and they give me the tea bag, I usually refill my cup about 5 times LOL
Um Yeah!
:) I hope that quenches your desire to hear me talk about tea haha! I could seriously go on forever
edit: here is a demonstration of gong fu style tea preparation in a tea shop this is the kind of tea shop I frequent, and also the kind of tea shop that inspires the Jasmine Dragon in @boomerang-guy <3
hi!! i took your quiz (it came highly recommended and i totally vibe with why) and retaking it a couple times, i found changing 1 answer changed my whole result. i ended up searching out all four just to read them because i found your dissection so interesting, and figured i could just decided on my own - but im still really torn between fire and air. what do you think are the biggest / deciding differences between the two? (only if it'd be any fun to point out! not trying to bother you)
absolutely not a bother! i’m down to answer any questions.
okay im gonna break this down into the biggest differences between them
THINKING (FIRE, EARTH) VS. REACTIONARY (AIR, WATER)
this is one of the biggest differences. fire is an element that functions at its best when it’s controlled. fire that is free-flowing is rarely a good thing. so with firebenders as people, it means that they function best when they’re prepared or when they’re able to reign themselves in. their emotions and thoughts are best communicated when they’ve had time to work through it or when they’re able to keep themselves collected rather than just exploding. firebenders do have this reputation of being volatile, and it’s true for many firebenders, but this is regarded as a negative thing. a firebender without control will more than likely be someone who says the first cruel thing to come to mind without consideration for the consequences or someone who tends to hurt others when they aren’t thinking about what they’re doing.
airbenders, on the other hand, thrive when they’re working in the moment. the fact that they’re free-flowing and prone to improvisation is a good thing for them. imagine a room completely shut in. no windows, no cracks--just no place for air to properly flow. what happens? you run out of oxygen. when airbenders are constricted or have to act a certain way or anything of the like, they struggle. they need space. where firebenders explode when they aren’t contained or collected, airbenders explode when they ARE contained or collected for too long. they need to just exist in certain moments without any sense of restraint.
so ask yourself: do you work better when you’re prepared or in the moment? when you have to restrain yourself, does this hinder your ability to perform in a situation? does it feel wrong even when it’s necessary?
the second biggest difference is
INTERNAL (AIR, WATER) VS. EXTERNAL (FIRE, EARTH)
airbenders work internally, which means that you work on the mind first before being able to focus on bettering your body. so basically you get a better understanding of your emotions when you can sit and think on them, when you can dissect them and try to understand where they’re coming from. airbenders are less likely to recognize physical stressors until they can properly understand what they’re feeling and why they’re feeling like that--then they can address the physical problem. a vague example is, let’s say an airbender says something on the fly in an argument, they’re more likely to not understand where that came from until they’re given the space to figure it out.
firebenders, however, work externally. by working on their body, this will then lead to working on their mind. they can more easily recognize what is causing them stress and need to address that problem before they can go on to address their emotions. where an airbender will say something in the moment and need to dissect it later, a firebender saying something in the moment won’t leave them with that sense of confusion, but alleviation because it’s probably not actually in the moment at all but something they’ve been wanting to address.
so in summary:
internal = “alright i am feeling this way. this is why. lets fix what’s causing the problem.”
external = “alright this is causing the problem. let’s fix it. now i can process what i was feeling.”
so ask yourself: can i recognize stressors without processing my feelings first? do i need to understand my emotions before i can address the cause of them? which option works best for me as a person?
hopefully this helped!!
