She was tired-- physically this time-- so damn tired, but she didn't want to tell Donghyuck no when he asked if she'd like to go to the movies. She hadn't seen him all week due to upcoming exams and she was beyond tired from studying, but she wanted to see him.
Her smile widened at the high ringing that filled the house as she yelled goodbye to her mother and met Donghyuck with a tight hug on her porch. Donghyuck shared the embrace easily, pressing a feather-light kiss to her forehead.
"How are you?" he hummed quietly, rocking them slowly.
She shrugged, eyes closed. "Fine, I guess," she breathed, eyes heavy as she rested against Donghyuck’s collar bones
Donghyuck nodded and pulled away, opening the car door for her before getting in. He held her hand the whole way to the movie theater, talking softly in his higher voice as she tried not to fall asleep.
"Sweetheart," he hummed quietly, squeezing her hand lightly, "we can go if you just want to sleep, I don't mind."
She shook her head frowning. "I'm not tired, I'm fine. I wanna go out with you."
Donghyuck wrinkled his nose but nodded.
They entered the theater, buying popcorn and drinks before settling in the back corner of the room. She picked at the popcorn, head on Donghyuck's shoulder, nodding along slowly with the conversation, responding every once in a while with a confirmatory hum.
Donghyuck kept his arm around her waist protectively, arm rest slid out of the way so she could rest against him more comfortably. His quiet talking filled their corner as he placed kisses to her hair sporadically, waiting for the advertisements to finish running their course.
She was asleep before the movie started and Donghyuck laughed softly as he took the jacket off his lap and around her bare shoulders. He'd been busy at college that week, packed down with work and classes and labs even after she was out of school for the day. Freshman year was a pain and so was senior year, so they didn’t have much time, but they made it work as best they could, usually spending the weekends together and texting when they had a free moment.
Donghyuck half-watched the movie, laughing where it was funny and cooing where it was appropriate, but he also made sure to watch his girlfriend for any discomfort. She already had issues sleeping so exam week wasn't helping in the least as she continuously pulled all-nights studying and finish end-of-the-semester projects teachers decided to throw on her. He had thought the movies would be relaxing but entertaining enough for her to keep her mind off the anxiety exams brought her.
Apparently, he was correct on the "relaxing" aspect. He didn’t mind her sleeping on him, he just felt bad for not forcing her to stay home for some sleep sleep.
The movie ended too quickly and he waited until the movie theater had basically cleared out before touching her face lightly.
"Sweetheart," he cooed softly, "it's time to wake up." The senior's eyes opened slowly as she took in her surroundings before bolting up.
"Oh my goodness," she gaped, eyes wide, "I fell asleep! I’m so sorry, why didn't you wake me?"
Donghyuck shrugged. "You looked too cute." She groaned, but her cheeks flushed. "Plus, you needed rest."
She sighed, lips beginning to push out in a disappointed pout. "But I wanted to hang out with you."
"You're sure you don't want to just sleep?" He checked, watching her face closely.
She nodded quickly.
"Then I suppose we can go back to your house and we can have dinner together while we talk. How does that sound?" he proposed, lacing their fingers as he stood.
She nodded. "I suppose that works."
He kissed the tip of her nose. "Good."
