i'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the seer of doom! one of my fantrolls is a seer of doom although im not entirely sure if that classpect fits them yet, so i'd love a more in-depth analysis of it.

Seer of [Doom]:

Know - Too Little Experience with Doom

A player who lacks experience with [Compliance and Wisdom], leading to a fierce drive to study [Acceptance and Sympathy] and gradually learning of its potential to affect them or the ones around them

A Seer of Doom is surrounded by growth and perseverance, and lacks compliance and wisdom in their life, and as a result are driven to learn everything they can about acceptance and sympathy in order to understand what they previously lacked.

Seers study their aspect, craving knowledge of it from their previous lack of it. They seek knowledge of their aspect with a fierce intensity in order to gain more understanding of it, acknowledging the potential consequences of doing so and dealing with them later. Their challenge is to learn how to translate their insight and knowledge into action and decision, as well as learn how to manage their engagement with their aspect so as to not overwhelm themself or others.

Inverse Classpect Analysis of Seer

Seer of Doom: Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) is passive and lacking. Too little experience with aspect causes lack of understanding of it.

Inverse: Witch of Life

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) is actively changed within the Seer as they experience Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) to understand it from its passive presence.

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) embodies the Seer, but is changed to Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) as they experience Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy).

I did not understand this one at first, so let me place some thoughts. Anything in excess is bad; seers are surrounded by the excess of their inverse. Growth and perseverance do not seem as though they are bad in excess, but at what point do such things go too far? At what point is growth leaving behind the roots in their entirety? At what point does perseverance lose sight of the initial motivator? This Seer wants to back up, find their roots, and stay with them.

Maid of Doom

A Maid of Doom relies on the wisdom of others and things around them, and gets frustrated when this doesn't end up working out easily for them. They attempt to control their growth by relying on tradition; but because they cannot control the growth of others, their reliance on the acceptance of others is soured. This means they can often fall into a habit of attempting to stifle the way other people naturally change and grow, all in an effort to preserve their traditions and roots.

Certainly, I can do an overview of the Doom Aspect for you. If you'd like me to post my analysis of the Knight of Doom, feel free to send another ask! I really do not mind being spammed. I feel as though it is often that Doom is characterized by its inverse aspect the most, as people tend to better understand the intricacies of the Life Aspect than they do Doom (this can be due to personal bias, environment, culture, ect). I also personally feel as though the Doom Aspect is overlooked or simply not understood and thus forgotten about, but that's just the general feeling I have picked up from perusing tags here and there.

Doom is an extremely interesting aspect. The remaining 11 aspects are about growing into your aspect through your class, but "growth" is one of the keywords of Life, Doom's inverse. How does one approach Doom and expect to grow?

From The Extended Zodiac, I pulled these keywords from the Doom Aspect description. These would be the "canon" traits; they are what I adhere to when analyzing, but it should also be understood that this concept encompasses much more to do with than these keywords. Its "vibe", if you will, is much more than what is written.

TEZ Doom Keywords: Suffering, wisdom, empathy, listeners, commiserators, wise, kind, non-judgemental, (bitter, resentful, fatalistic)

I'll admit that I had trouble understanding what the Doom Aspect was supposed to be at first. But as I analyzed it further, it occurred to me that this may be the aspect of those who have trauma, or those who have learned to cope through the bad circumstances they've been given and what they've experienced in life. This aspect may be best understood as an outside force that acts upon the player, or a force that the player themself uses upon others. (See: The Condesce's Alternia; the entire thing reeks of Doom). This is not also to say that if you have trauma, you are automatically Doombound. There is nuance involved, and it is important to keep in mind that an Aspect is the force that is most important in a person's life, whether lacking or abundant, whether good or bad, whether they want it or not. Another aspect may be stronger for an individual, even if trauma is a big part of their life.

It is the aspect of tragedy, but it is not necessarily tragic. It is very easy to fail the Doom Aspect, but those who hold onto it are often extremely steadfast, even if they're only hanging on by a thread. The Doombound may be irate about it, but their suffering matters because they deserve better. As in tragedies, we cry because we know it can be better. For others, it can be spite, spitting at the lot you've been given in life and making the most of it anyways, for what else can you do? Commiseration is quite possibly Doom's biggest theme.

The keywords I chose for Doom are "Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, and Sympathy". Acceptance and Compliance may be better understood as "coming to terms", accepting and complying with what is there because it's the only choice you've been given. As well, Acceptance isn't necessarily complacency, but rather an acknowledgement of the reality of a situation, and navigating through it as best as one can from what they have. Doombound are able to offer Wisdom when they see others in similar experiences, Sympathetic because they too know what it's like, but how they go about offering their Wisdom and Sympathy can vary. The Doombound are not growing the way the Lifebound are, often trapped or restricted from doing so.

Doom, being Life's inverse, is also given the symbols of illness, rot, stagnation, decay, and we can see this in both Sollux and Mituna in canon. As poorly as Mituna was handled, he as an Heir of Doom (Passive Embodiment), embodies a lot of mental illness. Sollux as a Mage of Doom (Active Knower) had too much experience with Doom as a whole, and he stagnates heavily because of it, later becoming a ghost, which is quite a literal symbol. I will admit that Doom is one of my weakest understood aspects, and it has been a while since I read Homestuck, so I am unfortunately not as familiar with the Captors' character arcs in canon as I would like to be. I'm very happy to invite discussion! I enjoy hearing other perspectives.

Enhance - Too Little Reliance on Doom

A player who relies on others for [Compliance and Wisdom], before learning to rely on themselves and restoring/purifying [Acceptance and Sympathy] in themselves

A Maid of Doom relies on anyone or anything but themself to tell them how to comply with the wisdom of others, before learning how to rely on themself, restoring and purifying their own boundaries of acceptance and sympathies.

Maids start off pushed around by others' view of their aspect, but eventually allow their aspect to heal, restore, and enhance themselves, making them into an entirely new person and purifying their aspect to themselves. They start out relying on others for their aspect or being told by others how to interact with their aspect. Their challenge is to listen to themselves instead of others, and to not let others opinions dilute their aspect as they restore it for themselves and allow it to make them into a new person.

Inverse Classpect Analysis of Maid

Maid of Doom: Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) is passive and lacking. Too little self-reliance on aspect causes lack of enhancement of it in the self.

Inverse: Prince of Life

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) is actively destroyed in the Maid as they rely on Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) to enhance it from its passive presence.

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) obeys the Maid, but destroys itself to make way for the Maid's reliance on Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy).

Knight of [Doom]:

Utilize - Too Much Skill with Doom

A player extremely skilled with [Acceptance and Sympathy], and actively uses every part of [Compliance and Wisdom] as a tool to defend themselves and those around them

A Knight of Doom would be very skilled in using their wisdom born of compliance within the system they are held to, to protect and defend the acceptance of others and the sympathy towards them.

Knights are extremely adept with their aspect, their driving effort to protect it and others through it. They are loyal to their aspect's cause and naturally gifted with it, using it as a tool to achieve whatever they set themself to. Their challenge is to learn how to be less harsh on themselves, to accept and learn from failure, and to accept the assistance of others when they need it.

Inverse Classpect Analysis of Knight

Knight of Doom: Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) is actively there. Too much skill with aspect causes innate utilization of it.

Inverse: Rogue of Life

By being actively skilled in Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy), the Knight passively gives Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) to others as they utilize Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy).

Value of Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) in others is given by the Knight's skill with Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy).

Write up for the Witch of Doom? Or just the Doom aspect in general…

I actually received another ask about the Doom Aspect which should be posting soon, so I'll focus on the Witch of Doom for you here! A forewarning, my take on the Witch class is, from what I've seen, a bit unconventional. I hope you find it interesting anyways!

Witch of [Doom]:

Change - Too Little Embodiment of Doom

A) A player who picks pieces of [Acceptance and Wisdom] to embody, thereby actively changing [Compliance and Sympathy] to match their own ideals and desires

A) A Witch of Doom embodies the wisdom that comes with acceptance of a situation, in order to change their own and others sympathetic compliance.

B) A player who picks pieces of [Compliance and Sympathy] to embody, thereby actively changing [Acceptance and Wisdom] to match their own ideals and desires

B) A Witch of Doom embodies sympathetic compliance, in order to change their own and others wisdom that comes with acceptance of a situation.

Witches are self-assured and conclusive individualists. They pick and choose which parts and pieces of their aspect fit into their own already determined desires, making their aspect embody themself and changing it to suit their own wants and needs. Their challenge is to achieve a stable balance in themself without losing themself to their aspect or their own changing whims.

Witch of Doom: Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) is acted upon. Too little embodiment of aspect gives means to change it within the self, making it fit the self.

Inverse: Seer of Life

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) passively understands itself/makes itself known in the Witch as they actively change Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) to embody it.

Life (Growth, Perseverance, Empathetic, Healing) passively forces the Witch to experience it as the Witch changes Doom (Acceptance, Compliance, Wisdom, Sympathy) to embody it.
