I have such specific and extensive headcannons for the ri brothers' childhoods, but I have no idea what the best medium to share them with you all would be
Can you all stand really close together so I can beam them directly into your brains?
Finally retackling my Amad Ri after she's sat not coloured for several months
To be so clear, Dori isn't ashamed of his mothers profession. He doesn't like talking about her because they had a bit of a....tumultuous relationship
The Ri brothers and the Stray kitty inspired by @eqqtt adorable addition to this post
I am not presently smart enough to come up with a name for the cat so I'm open to suggestions
Transman Dori Rison is extremely important to me.
I love every single member of The Company of Thorin Oakenshield, unconditionally and eternally, but Dori has always been my favorite- this has been influenced by the movie, of course, as the book is sparing on non-Bilbo characterization. NO MATTER
Dori is a wondrous Herculean mother-hen and I love the fact that he is literally the strongest member of the Company and also a master of tea blending and brother raising.
And for some reason I am extremely taken with the idea of him as a transman??? Not necessarily because he exhibits attributes that are coded as feminine, but for some unknowable vibe I have that won't let me alone. ?????????
He began life as Dori Ridottir (shhh I know dwarf language would have it's own naming conventions LET ME HAVE THIS) but once Dori was about fifty he calmly began correcting his parents and they shrugged and accepted that their eldest was a son and not a daughter
and Dori began wearing trousers and styling his hair and beard accordingly, but also kept his hair super long and wore skirts and didn't really bother too much about binding up his breasts because they were male-attributes, as they were part of a male body
I love the idea of the character serenely combining his favorite attributes from all the dwarf genders and literally no one gives him trouble because dwarves likely don't give a damn about this stuff- live by what is in you, nothing more and nothing less, just make yourself useful while you're doing it
haha ya'll know this is going to lead to a fic right hahahaaa
Dori is busy after the Battle of the Five Armies, tending his wounded brothers and friends and leading search-parties to look for survivors and one day as he's taking soup to Nori a frail voice calls out,
"Dori? Dori Risdottir?"
Dori turns and freezes, seeing an old suitor he'd lost track of before the coming of the dragon. He is battered and weak, but his smile is the same as he remembers, and his lovely eyes remain radiant, and Dori's heart stumbles in his chest. He clears his throat.
"It's Rison, actually."
"Oh." the suitor blinks, and smiles again. "You've grown more beautiful over the years, Dori Rison."
And Dori blushes furiously but goes to see him once he's tucked Nori and Ori in and they fall in love again and theirs is the first marriage in the reclaimed Erebor the end.
