Headcanon: the Doriyah sword

So I was just thinking about swords. Yknow. Usual stuff.

And I came up with a purpose for the infamous DORIYAH sword.

It’s for hunting the giant burrowing sand monsters that live in the Gerudo Desert.

I headcanon that the Gerudo have a culture surrounding hunting creatures like Moldorms, Molgeras, and Moldugas similar to indigenous tribes of northwestern North America and whaling. There’s not much by way of edible plants and animals, so they hunt these GIANT DEATH CREATURES to secure a reliable source of food for many people.

Gerudo hunting parties use magic and huge drums to draw the burrowing monsters to the surface, where equestrian magic and archery are used to inflict wounds on its sand-shifting hide or carapace to keep the thing from getting too deep underground again. And the most devastating blows are dealt at close range by specific swords.

Ganondorf’s sword is shaped vaguely like a pickaxe, and that’s how it’s used. The weight and keen points crush and pierce through the armored hide or carapace of the quarry, and then the sharp blade is able to gash the thing open once its armor has been pierced.

Also, some of the leather on Ganondorf’s armor IS MADE OF MOLDUGA.
