All right, so my roommates are really about as disrespectful and inconsiderate that you can get with their still thinking that they do care and are respectful. Right? Yeah.
TV. My TV, out in the livingroom. No cable (though our dorm is cable-worthy, I just didn't know what kind of cable to get) but DVD player, at least.
Two weeks into the semester, I went home for the weekend. When my mom brought me back, I realized that they had replaced my TV and moved mine into an out-of-the-way corner, DVD player unplugged and all. Later, one of the guilty party was totally chill as she informed me that they had put in their TV so that they could "watch TV [cable], you know?"
Me being the idiot pushover that I am, I couldn't figure out what to say or how to confront them about it.
Then came a sort of party thing on Friday which they invited me to but never asked me if I was okay with their doing it in the first place. You see what I mean about disrespectful without thinking you are? It turned out to be not as bad as I'd feared, but still bad enough and I separated myself from it early. We live in different worlds.
Saturday, I was fed-up. I wanted to watch a DVD but not have to use my laptop, so I decided, what the heck, I'll try to hook up my player to their TV. So I tried. Turns out that, though their TV has a slightly bigger screen (maybe an inch all the way around?), it has fewer ports. I messed with it for a while and then decided, screw this, I'm tired of being walked all over, I'm going to replace their TV with mine. So that is exactly what I did, even hooked up the cable so that they'd be able to watch their precious TV that they've only watched maybe five times in the month that it's been hooked up.
(Okay, maybe more in the afternoon, when I'm gone (because I'm in class or working—these kids seriously have no life other than an intensely social one), but it's rarely on in the evening. I'm not complaining.)
This morning, I found that they'd re-replaced my TV last night and moved it to the coffee table, and put their TV back. With cable, without DVD. I am... really, really not okay with that.
And I'm seriously considering confronting them this afternoon for being assholes (I'll try not to use that word when talking to them). Just say, "Hey, I did this because a) I wanted to watch DVDs and b) I was making a point."
IDK, feedback? I'm not used to standing up this much for myself—I am honestly used to be tread upon, and I am really sick and tired of it.
